cpap pressure

Post by bagpiper51 » Mon Nov 23, 2009 10:12 am

i have been using cpap for about 7 years and during this time the pressure on my cpap has been increased to 15. just a month ago i was asked to have another sleep study done. i had the study done at a new center. the center was extremely warm (80's maybe) and although i brought my own cpap machine and mask i was told to use their machine. i feel that i didn't sleep hardly at all mainly due to the heat and also because i was very uncomfortable due to pains in was having on the left side of my abdomen. i actually came close to getting up and cancelling the study altogether. i was unplugged from everything and sent home around 5:30 - 6:00 am. a week ago i got a call from the sleep center and they told me that the pressure on my cpap should be changed to 7. i said that i wouldn't do anything until i was able to get an appointment with the sleep center doctor and get a few questions answered. my mind is saying that a reduction of more than half of what i am accustomed to is very unusual. any thought out there?

That's definitely the path I would take. I would also write a letter of complaint to the sleep center, and copy the sleep center doctor and your primary care physician. There is no reason for them to have the heat so high. Every sleep center I have visited (and that's been four or five in my area) drop the temperature at night for the very reason you noted, it is hard to sleep well when the temperature is high.

I would get a data-capable machine and software and check the data in the comfort of my own bed and titrate myself to the optimal pressure.
