Re: AFLEX and CFLEX and EPR and CFLEX+--Oh, my!
Respironic machines have two different exhalation relief options: Aflex and Cflex. If you purchase a Respironic machine with Aflex in the title it also comes with the Cflex option. A Respironic machine with Cflex in the title does not come with the Aflex option.
The Resmed machines offer EPR relief. EPR relief correlates to 1,2 and 3 cm of pressure dropping. For example, if your cpap pressure is 10cm and you enable EPR at 3, the pressure will drop 3 cm effectively giving you a cpap pressure of 7cm. Using the example I just gave if you enable EPR of 1 your pressure will drop 1 cm giving you an effective pressure of 9 cm.
Each of the above exhalation relief options works or doesn't work for people on an individual basis. For example, Aflex didn't work for me but Cflex did. If you ask the next person, they might say Aflex feels better than Cflex. Still another person will prefer EPR relief. You really have to try for yourself.

The latest ResMed xPAP incorporate a technology they call EasyBreathe(TM) which is supposed to more closely minic normal breathing. This is standard. So, there is EasyBreathe as well as EPR.
ResMed S9 range 9.8-17, RespCare Hybrid FFM

I'm new here and wondering if renting might make sense until I find the CPAP or APAP that's right for me before I buy one.
