Post by Snorebert » Fri Nov 13, 2009 9:59 am

I know that there are many ill effects of untreated sleep apnea, but this is the first that I have heard of this one. Just out of curiosity, has anyone experineced this? http://www.azcentral.com/members/Blog/c ... pson/67405

Having read about people thrashing about during apnea events, it seems reasonable falling out of bed could happen. Some of the other possible sleep disorders made sense to me too, as my father was a sleepwalker and acted out his bad dreams.

With my really bad apnea events (pre-therapy) I would burst awake, rip the covers off and run around the house waiting to die or to call 9-1-1. I wouldn't be surprised if you could fall out of bed due to the sheer panic from the stress hormones.

Following events, immediate wake up with tachycardia, panting to get enough air, hot flush, drenched in sweat (bedclothes and pillows might be wet too...gross), anxious, freaked out. Sat up in bed, rip off nightshirt trying to get more air into lungs. If I tried to stand, felt like I'd collapse. I thought I was having ongoing nightmares and my breathing was compromised...I was so clueless.

When I was a young girl, I used to walk in my sleep. My mom would put locks and chains on the door and I would open them up and walk out of the house. It was'nt until my late thirties that I was diagnosed with S.O.S.A. When I think back on my early years, I think the two had connections. I think O.S.A made me sleep walk. My brain try to keep me up and alive. I dont walk in my sleep anymore. It stopped around my teens.

Yep. Sleepwalker here, along with severe chronic insomnia and extremely violent, thrashing-about sleep. All solved now, thanks to CPAP...

I had a SERIOUS problem of falling out of bed!!!!! I'd fall out several times a night. Not simply "rolling out" from under the covers, but SITTING UP on the edge of the bed, then falling face first on the floor!!! It was bad, really bad! I ended up installing a safety rail on the bed to keep me from falling out. It did a pretty good job, except for the times when I went to the bathroom in the middle of the night and forgot to put it back up. (I shouldn't laugh, it IS serious)

I have only fallen out of bed once, and that was a couple of years ago. What I would do is have a conversation with someone while I'm sleeping. What's worse is that I make total sense.
