New mask and palpitations????

Post by FatiguedMe » Mon Nov 09, 2009 7:51 am

Hi,
Last Wed I got my new Opus 360, Thursday palpitations started slowly. All this weekend, I mean all day long I have had them. I am not use to this as it has occured before, but not lasted ALL day. I am about to call my PCP this morning if it starts again. So far I don't feel them.
I am also a breast cancer survivor, I did herceptin which can cause Congestive heart failure, so in the back of my mind I am always worried a little about that.
I am wondering if it is mask/pressure related mainly because of timing. Plus the architecture of the Opus pillows being so straight and open. Which I love! Anybody got any ideas?
Thank you
Susan

It could be just a ccoincidence. I have palpitations on and off for no reason. Sometimes when I put my mask on at night the air blowing into me gives me a little palpitations for a second. Then it goes away. I doubt cpap would cause palpitations, but check with your pcp to ease your worries otherwise you'll be afraid to use your cpap and that's not good.

Palpitiations (PVCs) are extremely common. I had them, and went to a cardiologist. After full workup, they were found to be benign. However, if you've had a history of meds that COULD cause heart failure, get a cardio opinion, and don't rely on speculation.

Don't know if it applies to you but I stopped mine in 2000 by first eating a glut-load of almonds (1 cup...do you know how much chomping ya gotta do to eat 1 cup of almonds ) then the following day (Monday) I bought some magnesium citrate taking 400 mgs/day which is just slightly above the RDI (ya know that measurement based on 18 year old athletic guys)..stopped 95% of them in 1-2 days. Doc laughed at the almonds and approved the supplement. Been on it since then. Upped to 800 mgs when stress reached it's max over the last yr, just dropped to 600 mgms as a blood test showed I was at the top of the lab range.
ResMed S9 range 9.8-17, RespCare Hybrid FFM
Never, never, never, never say never.

I have horrible PVCs that come in cycles, usually related to my IBS/digestive issues and stress/panic attacks (everything's connected!). I didn't have them for a while after starting CPAP, but they have returned. Stress, diet, activity (or lack thereof) can all contribute. I just started on a low dose (100mg/day) of magnesium glycinate, which is supposedly easy on the stomach and very absorbable. My PVCs aren't gone by any means, but I think they are fewer and far between. Ask your doctor about it and see what he/she says.

Dude, welcome to the club! It is definitely stress related, as I found out from all my tests. What is it with we musicians? I definitely concur on the Magnesium as an effective treatment for PVCs. It is quite effective in resolving Bigeminy runs of several minutes or more. 500 MG seems to do the trick in minimizing them for me. In addition, CBT works well for that (for me).
