quatro

i had a swift lt nasal pillow. could not get used to it i think because of mouth breathing. i would wake up every morning having taken it off and flung it on the floor and no recollection of doing so. yesterday i got a ful face mask quatro. i used it last night for first time. it seemed to go very well. i woke up a couple of days but went back to sleep pretty quickly. but today i still feel tired. does it take a while to start to feel better? my only other complaint was that i was getting air coming out towards my eyes. if i tightened the mask with the screw thing i did not get the air rush towards the eyes, but then it felt like the mask was too tight. does anyone have any suggestions in that regards. so anyway i thought it went well last night. kept mask on all night. but i still feel tired today. any help is appreciated. thank you and wish you all the best.

Even though I got used to the Quattro pretty much right away, it took about six weeks before I really started to feel good all day and not sleepy or tired. I had to make some adjustments in those first weeks, including raising the pressure. One thing I found was if I tightened the mask too much, my numbers actually got worse, not to mention I woke up with a headache. The forehead adjustment has lots of increments, so use as little as possible to reduce the leaks by the eyes. Some leakage should be expected. My numbers are better with slight leakage than with no leakage, perhaps because I am more comfortable and get better sleep. Another thing you can try is adjusting the mask when you put it on to slightly higher or slightly lower on your nose to see if that makes a difference in the leaks. Good luck!

When you get the air into the eyes does it feel that the mask may have shifted? if so try picking it up and re-seating the mask on your face before you go for tightening the dial. If the dial is good when you setup for the night (turning head, checking for leaks etc) it should not need to be adjusted again during the night in my experience. Re-seat the mask first is my advice, preferably with the machine off if you can. If after re-seating it still leaks then i would try a dial adjustment.

If you tighten the dial too much you will end up with a sore nose bridge that will make using the mask very uncomfortable.

Good luck

If it is a new mask or even one you have had awhile... soak it for at least 30 to 60 minutes in warm water with some soap( I use purell). It makes a big difference .
I have given up on my quattro because it leaked around my eyes...
The new Full Life mask seems to be working very well for me now.

sashaspopster, What hose management do you utilize? The drag of an unmanaged hose can destroy mask fit starting the first time you move and lasting throughout the night.

There is an elegant, easy, and quick fix to the serious negative caused by a hose just laying and dragging all night long - hang or suspend the hose!

There are many shared how-to's on this topic here on our forum. The swivel plant hanger on the wall behind your bed; the plant hanger hanging from the ceiling just to mention two; and there are many commercial set-ups, or even discussions on how to construct your own.

Hang in there! (pun intended) and know that everything will come together - have often heard it said here, "it's a journey" - or something like that. So true.

Just a few observations from my mask. Is the seal leaking or are you feeling air bouncing back from the hose? (Hose coming down from forhead over vents.) Place your hand along the mask between the hose and your eyes. Does this stop the air? If so move the hose off to one side. I also notice that the flow coming out of the mask vents can start air moving up from your face to the mask exhaust. Sort of like a draft. Have used this mask from day one, love / hate relationship.

There are a number of posts on getting the Quattro fit just right, there is also a good video on the Resmed. Test fit in front of a mirror. I suggest starting out with the adjustment set all the way out at 24. Minimise the eye leaks by tucking the seal around your nose, then adjust the knob to maintain the seal. You'll eventually find a sweet spot. Try to guage the forehead pad above your eyebrows once you get it all tuned in so you can return to that spot each time. Also, once you get the headgear right, trace around the ends of the velcro tabs with a fine Sharpie so you can return to the same postion after washing.
