Pillows mask that doesn't block vision (besides OptiLife)?

Post by tillymarigold » Tue Nov 03, 2009 12:34 pm

Hi all,

I've been using CPAP for nearly 3 years. I started with a ComfortLite 2 mask, switched to a Hybrid, then have been using the OptiLife for over 2 years. I absolutely love it--it's quiet and the exhaust isn't very strong, but more importantly, it doesn't block my vision or get in my way at all.

However, I think the OL must have been slightly redesigned earlier this year, because the last 2 I've gotten seemed to make a different sound, and I don't feel like I'm sleeping as well. I tried going up to the medium pillow (from small) and although it fit better and I felt like I slept better with it, my numbers went through the roof and I was a complete zombie by the end of 2 weeks ... so I guess not. I went back to the small.

What other nasal pillow masks have the tubing going down the front rather along the side of the head or up over the face? I think the Breeze and the Opus do, is that right? Would you recommend either of those? Are there others?

And a question on behalf of my husband--do any of them have an exhaust as soft and quiet as the OptiLife's? I know that might be too much to hope full, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

I use a fairly low pressure (8-12) so I don't generally have a lot of problems with leaks, FWIW.

With the Swift LT, you have the option for the tubing to go either up or down. When worn down, it doesn't block vision at all. Unfortunately, I haven't tried the OptiLife, so I can't tell you which is quieter.

Does it still stick out on one side? That's what I didn't like about the Swift when I tried it, that it was bulkier on one side so you couldn't lie on that side.

Tillymarigold, I think you're thinking about the Swift II, whereas Millich has the Swift LT. If you click on the link in her signature, you can see a picture of it. The pic shows the tube going up between the eyes and over the head, but you can detach it and use it going down, so nothing blocks the eyes.

The Opus's exhaust is quiet and gentle. I prefer the Opus to the Breeze, it's much lighter.

Both the Breeze and the Swift LT setlle on your upper lip. The Opus does not.

Thanks everybody--and my husband thanks you too. I'll let you know how it turns out.
