Cleaning w/vinegar & lemon juice?

I would not use bleach under any circumstances. In addition to what other posters have said regarding this, I can add that it might lead to disintegration of the silicone. I'm remembering a time when I was in college back in the '60s I decided to bleach my dark blue jeans to make them look "fashionably wornout" ... and it wasn't more than two or three months before those jeans did literally "wear out." Since they were no longer wearable, I turned those jeans into rags. A tough lesson for a college freshman with very little money to waste on a brand new pair of jeans.

for what it's worth, there's a world of difference in the chemical makeup of silicone and denim.

I've never heard of using lemon juice for that. Vinegar and water is how my Doctor and my durable medical equipment supplier instructed me to sanitize my equipment. I know it works; however, I don't don't do it, because it smells awful. I've damaged hoses and humidifier tanks by using hot water (straight from the kettle) and was hoping I'd find some information about chemical sanitizers that I could use.

Wash everything with warm water and mild soap. I use baby shampoo. I figure if it's safe for a baby, it's safe for me. The only time I have sanitized my equipment was after a nasty bout of bronchitis, and I used vinegar and water as the manufacturer recommended.

No one 'sanitizes' anything... and very many never, from year to year, touch the hoses. All that goes through them, in one direction, is filtered room air... kind of pointless unless you actually see that something's gotten inside one time.

As far as bleach, bleach isn't really a cleaning agent it is for whitening. If you do get something growing in your humidifier wash it out good and soak it in a solution of water and vinegar. Don't bleach it, you won't kill what is growing in there you will only bleach it.

World Health Organization has list bleach to disinfect. 1/4 cup per gallon as I remember, I was required to use it. Also bleach is listed to use for water purification in all the reliable survival training schools.And was part of my military training...
I use peroxide now, smells and taste better...lol
