To keep from having to clean your humidifier tank. Some people have a fetish about that.

Here in Portland the TCI is very strict. I have never been able to carry distilled water. Thankfully, I no longer need to use a humidifier. And, it is NOT laziness to carry on everything you need for cpap. With tight work schedules on business trips, finding distilled water, if that is what you need, can be next to impossible in a town you are not familiar with.
