Their reasoning, with which I concur: throw up, and you could die.
I would recommend a full-face mask. It just feels safer to me.
Incurring the wrath of others,
No wrath from me either. I use Johnson & Johnson 1" clear tape, which happened to be in the house when I started CPAP. I've also tried paper tape and some fascinating Nexcare waterproof tape when I was trying to seal off every possibility of leaking through the mouth. I particularly didn't care for the unexpected cough experience or the time I hadn't plugged in the CPAP and put my mask on and pretty much couldn't breathe. But those were isolated incidents--100 sealing the mouth just didn't work for me and disturbed the entire pattern of my sleep. I'm not afraid I will throw up--I have never, ever done that in my life without previous nausea and knowing a flu or the equivalent was coming on. I just didn't like it.
Now I consistently put a strip of tape down the center of my mouth only. This manner of taping is condoned by my RT. I also have a makeshift chin strap that is actually an eye mask. The combination definitely retards my mouth leak, but would not even touch the efficiency of a FFM. I think it's all in what overall package the person prefers and feels the best with.

Duct Tape. A few years ago, I tried everything. Turns out most of the stuff does not stick with me and my pressure is high. Never had any problems with residue. After a few months use, all of a sudden, I no longer needed to tape myself.

The major CPAP manufacturers, Respironics, Resmed, and Fisher & Paykel, all offer a 30 mask return policy, assuming you got your equipment through a DME.
This means that you can take your mask in within 30 days of recieving it, and they should change you out to a different mask free of charge. If they try to charge you, call BS on them, or find yourseld a new DME.
DME_RT.........
Questions:
How many times is a mask sent out for a trial use?
Not trying to step in the middle when it's DME_RT you're asking, not me.... but.. I don't think the "30 day mask return policy" offered to the DME by the manufacturer means a returned mask is to be sent out a second time, much less again and again. That's just a policy offered by some manufacturers to the DME to make it easier financially for the DME to swap one mask (new) that you can't use for another mask ( also new.)
I don't think it means sending out demo masks over and over again.
Probably depends on the individual DME, as to exactly what happens to returned masks. I'd like to think that most of them end up being cleaned and donated to people who have no insurance and wouldn't be able to afford a mask at all.
