Does having the pressure higher cause any issues

Post by fsmitty » Wed Oct 21, 2009 11:47 am

Went for my doctor follow-up today. The nurse said the results from my 2nd night study showed that at a pressure of 7 I had 0 apnea events. the doctor had the machine initially set for 9. I told them that I am happy with 9 and didn't wanted it to be lowered. Does having a higher pressure cause any issues? For me the 9 pressure feels just right and makes it easier for me to breath.

I doubt 9 versus 7 could cause any issues, but I think I've heard here that extremely high pressures can trigger central apneas. I'm sure some of our wiser old timers will chime in here.

If you tell the sleep doc you would prefer to stay at 9 for comfort reasons, the doc should have no problem letting you go by your present prescription, unless there is something exceptional about your circumstances, I would think.

I would get it set at whatever the doc says, did he give you a choice between 7 and 9?

The funny thing is the nurse is the one that said the 2nd night study showed a pressure of 7. She said that I could ask the doctor that I want it to stay at 9 and that it shouldn't be any issues with that. When the doctor came in he either forgot to mention about the pressure or was told by the nurse outside that I wanted the pressure at 9. All he discussed was how I was doing and to arrange a follow-up in a year. He also referred me to a ENT to check out my nasal congestion.

Smitty, funny thing is my titration study didn't show much as I wasn't even able to tolerate a pressure of 7 and now on CPAP I have my minimum set at 11. Go figure.

If 9 works for you, then I'd stay there.
