You don't.
You train yourself to over come and prevail.
It's a Zen thing.
Naw, you lift up the mask and scratch.

Why?

Because you are already awake to feel the itch so at that point any events don't matter given that you are AWAKE.

But Paul, if you're a nut like I am, if I lift up my mask, I screw up my results for that second. Remember, no leaks allowed, and got to optimize the CPAP therapy. So I don't let myself lift it up. I do breathing exercises, or whatever to try and distract myself. Does it work? Sometimes yes and sometimes no.

Ahh guys, scratch the itch good and don't worry so much about the data. I am not sure how quickly the leak gets reported but below is my last night report. Woke up with rainout. Water in the nasal pillow. Gurgling, so I lay there pulling up the pillows to try to get the water out. Never turned the machine off. Fiddled with it for a good 5 to 8 minutes. On, off, on, etc. Air blowing everywhere. Finally said to heck with it and got up. No huge leak shows on data and no weird events or such. All I can say is that those times I do have large leaks showing I must have had some giant prolonged leaks.

It's a Data thing.

If I give my face a good wipe with my hand immediately before putting the mask on... chances are I will have zero problems with itching.

But, if I do have an itch I'm a gonna scratch it and forget about the data... besides, it is more a matter of how I feel the next day.

I keep a popsicle stick and Q-tips handy. Watch out with the Q-tips, though, buy the tightly wrapped kind . . . or a wad of loose cotton might be sucked up into your brain

Not a problem in my case... as that would just fill up some empty space.

Apologize to all who took me seriously. Sorry for lack of smilies. I mean, I'm partially serious. I'll try to ignore it, but if I can't, well, I mean, of course I scratch it. I may be stupid, but I'm not dumb. Now was that clear?

I think I may be able to help out here with some clarification for those of you scoring at home, since I am in the process of learning that dialect. If we rearrange the phrases and state implicitly the implications, I believe what Gary is saying is something akin to the following:

"I'm partially serious, so I apologize to those who understood that about me. I hate smilies. I generally pay attention to that which I can't ignore. It would be dumb for any of us to ignore the fact that we may be stupid."

I may have taken a few small liberties with that translation, but I think I may have caught the spirit of the original text. Am I close, Gary?

(Sorry for the smilies, man.)

Seriously, I heard ya. Like your posts, too.

Gary, if you haven't picked up on it yet.....
if you post something that you or anyone reading can't understand,
JNK has a natural ability...a sixth sense for when to jump in and clarify.

You will find his analysis and explanations to be
for the most part, right on the mark and pretty much,
mostly unequivocally, without a doubt, at least ball park,
and always sometimes hit the nail on the head....
correct.

Carbonman always has such a nice way of letting me know when I'm wrong.

I appreciate that, though, since he is the first person who helped me understand that my brain might be fried . . .
