I live in London, Ontario. Where can I buy a white noise machine to block out the noise of my spouse that snores?
Thanks

If you love your spouse, get him or her to your doctor, and see that s/he gets a sleep test. It's likely that s/he has sleep apnea, in which case, a CPAP machine will not only give you white noise, but it will solve the snoring issue.

If you don't love your spouse, well, make sure the insurance is up to date, because the apnea, or apnea-related co-morbidities will probably kill him/her sooner rather than later.

Oh Kiralynx... that's mean! Whether or not she loves him is not the point. Whether or not she can get a (likely) 200 lb man to a doctor is the point and all the love in the world can't do it without lots of outside help and her husband's acquiescence.

You need a White Noise machine and a large Life INS Policy on your husband. Or maybe if you like him around see that he gets treatments, however snoring is just on of the sign of Sleep Apnea, treatment usually helps snoring, and the XPAP machine provides some background noise. a T.V. tuned to a off channel is a good source of white Noise. I live in London Ontario. You can get white noise machines at "Shoppers Home Health Care" (Commissioners & Wellington) or in the mall near Chesley Park. I've forgotten what the mall is called.

Others are right though. Your spouse needs to have a sleep study done! He needs to get referred to a Sleep Specialist. There is Dr George at London Health Sciences Centre but be prepared to wait months! There is also a private sleep lab on Bradley Ave I think it is. It is covered by OHIP so no problem.

I am a patient of Dr Georges' but, in the future I might try the private one. There is little waiting and the doctor there is a Sleep Specialist as well. Last I heard you don't even need a referrel from your GP to go there.

PM me if I can help you any more with London sleep stuff.

Then I apologize -- there wasn't any intent to be mean. Or to slap someone in the face.

I do know how hard it can be to get a spouse, or one's self to the doctor.

However, a white noise machine to COVER the snoring isn't going to resolve the problem. A properly adjusted CPAP will, if the spouse in question has apnea. Either way, the cause of the snoring needs to be determined.

And yes, you're right: all the love in the world can't help someone if they don't want to be helped. I was just over visiting my mother. She's bed-bound. Her connection with reality is incredibly tenuous. And I strongly believe that her heart issues and these other issues are due to untreated apnea.

I see, day after day after day, what untreated apnea results in. Try if you will, to imagine the pain of seeing my mother crying, over and over, that the toy cat I brought her is her only friend. Of trying to coax her to eat something, and she's too out of it to recognize her own hunger. Knowing that she will eventually starve to death if she doesn't eat -- and watching her wasting away, day by day. The physical results will manifest whether you cover it up or not. So if I seem harsh, it's because I'm living with the reality: apnea can't be ignored.

Julie,

Mean? I don't think so. Honest? Yes. OSA is a life-threatening disease. People die from it every day. It has a relatively simple treatment. If the original poster wants to be a widow, then she should get the white noise machine. If she wants to grow old with her husband, then she needs to get him to a doctor to get tested.

If you do a search for "Marpac Sleepmate", you should come up with a number of sources. I got mine from:

I wish I knew this when I was married. I would have bought a white noise machine and saved the divorce expense.
