It's called "silent mode". My DME enabled it when they gave me my current machine, even though they didn't know what the option meant, as I was complaining about a clicking H5i.

My machine has a manufacture date of April 2011, and there is no such option. I ran through everything in the clinician's menu today just to make sure, and it's not there. Too bad it's impossible to update the firmware!

I have the same machine and have been in the clinicians set up and have not noticed silent mode. Next time I go in, I will check for it. The beep doesn't bother me and when my husband is sleeping he doesn't hear much, so that's a good thing. I think they should have a way for this to be an option for those that don't like it.

I think yours is too old for that option. My machine (firmware v2.50) came with a "User Manual Insert" dated 2011-05-10 (date format clarified using the humidifier manual). This insert describes the user-accessible features too new for the main manual (2010-08-05): ramp time adjustment, silent mode, and humidifier preheat. The corresponding provider manual insert wasn't all that interesting; IIRC (it got misplaced) it just mentioned these features, how to use humidifier preheat to test the humidifier, and that the tubing type can be locked.

Which machine do you have? The autoSV Advanced (DS960) I just received was manufactured 2013-03-15, has firmware "2.00", and doesn't appear to have a silent mode (grrrrr).

Folks, you can do this without permanently damaging the unit. I followed the disassembly instructions, however instead of desoldering the tranducer, I took some needle nose players and remove the cylindrical cover (straight up) and removed the metal symbol. It is the round, thin plate on top of the tranducer. It will fall right out. if you ever had to return it, you just put it back.

One thing to think about. If you modify the machine in anyway and you have to send it into a manufacturer or repair shop, it will cost you more money because they will replace that part that you modified. Or in worst case scenario, wont fix the machine at all.

Since most machines that old are off-warranty, the machine's owner may need to insist up-front that the light is NOT to be repaired.
Probably even have it on the repair order; and have it signed by repair personnel--and keep a signed copy!
Any warranty will be voided by the modification; and if a repair shop does anything NOT ordered, they must have APPROVAL.
If the repair shop insists they MUST replace the modified part, it's time to get a new machine--or a new repair shop.

Just in case anybody with a PRS1 AutoSV ends up reading this the procedure is almost the same, but actually a bit easier.

On this model the speaker is actually mounted externally within the case, and there is an additional wire that connects to the board on the side where the humidifier attaches. All you need to do to silence the speaker is unplug it - you don't even have to remove the board. This is obviously easily reversed.

That's a good tip about the connector... so is the Q-Tip tip if you just want to simply tone it down by about 90%, you don't even have to open the case! I actually think the Q-tip idea is better because you can still hear the beeper's error codes if you machine is having problems and requires service.

Bravo for showing us all how to turn off the beep on our Respironics machines! I wasn't brave enough to desolder my transducer, but your instructions inspired me to put two layers of thick double-stick tape on the speaker and it cut the beep volume by 3X. So my wife has been able to sleep.

Now, I just got the latest version of the Respironics System One, which has the same beep, and discovered the insides have changed (at least, on the model that I now have). But, it appear that you can now disable the sound just by unplugging the light blue connector. At least, that fixed it for me, but I'm not sure there isn't some other side effect. I'll report back in a few weeks if that creates a problem.

I realize that this disables audible warnings, but a sleepy wife can be more dangerous, especially if she drives in the morning.
