older style full face mask

Post by rogerthatone » Wed Oct 14, 2009 1:55 pm

I got my first cpap back in 2002, however didnt start using the one i have now until about 2006, problem is all the new masks seem to have the forehead stablizer, i have tried them and i either end up with a rash or just sore forehead, my pressure is 20cm. I had the mask i got with my original cpap and it actually had a 5 strap headgear, I have been using this one until recently when the strap holes on the top of the mask finally gave way, I have reglued the ones on the side and even used paperclips to secure my strap to the mask, but the support on top cant take the pressure for having to have my mask really tight, Anyway my question is does anyone know where i might be able to locate an old mask from around that time frame or a really good one that doesnt have the forehead thing.

Two possible answers for you.

The first would be to try a full face mask that employs both a mouth mask and nasal pillows. There are two of these available right now that I know of: The 'hybrid', which is the mask I use, and the Mirage Liberty, which is very similar. The hybrid comes will all sizes of seals and pillows, so it should work for many people.

The second mask to consider is the new 'full life' mask, which is a smaller full face mask that is designed not to need the forehead bridge. It has a four strap headgear system with five adjustments, and it is very different from any other headgear system out there. It looks to me to be a good choice for someone who needs a lot of pressure.

You can find plenty of information about all these masks by searching on this site. There is also a 'challenge', just completed, between the Full Life and the Mirage Quattro mask (a mask with a forehead support). You can read about it at the 'PC 11' banner at the top of the main forum page.

welcome

all new masks and headgear should be first soaled in warm water with mild detergent then rinsed, with your pressure you will need careful strap adjustment, best done lying down, try wearing mask higher or lower on face
