A Chickasha soldier who was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas, was found dead just days before his scheduled discharge. 28-year-old Pfc. Dale Tyler was found dead by his wife. "He had been sleeping with a machine,” Henry said. "Investigators told us they have already ruled out homicide, and are now just waiting for the toxicology reports.”
Henry said her brother was diagnosed with sleep apnea about two months ago, although the family had long suspected he had the condition.

Thanks Rooster, that is a good reminder that we must use our cpaps everytime we sleep or nap.

Weird. I saw "Chickasha" and wondered how you knew my Dad was from Chickasha and never figured it was a sleep apnea related death. More coffee, please.
So sad. Probably more likely an aneurysm. But could have been aggravated by OSA, definitely.
Cheers,
B.
I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula.

But he WAS using it, according to the only source that mentions apnea. There's no indication that the machine had failed. No indication his OSA was a factor at all. Heck, it's even possible the CPAP is what killed him, I suppose...
The OSA patient died quietly in his sleep.
Unlike his passengers who died screaming as the car went over the cliff...

I remember looking at my overnight sleep study graphs and when they were stepping up my pressure levels, when they hit a certain pressure, my O2 levels started to drop so they stepped it back down.
I know that for cpap therapy to be effective, its critical to have the proper pressure... I know what happens when the pressure is too low. But can anyone tell me what happens when it is too high? Could that be a factor in somones death like this poor fellow?
Such a terrible thing for his wife and family. It would be so sad to wake up next to your loved one only to find that they are no longer alive.
My thoughts are with the family.

Pressure too high can contribute to "centrals"...apneas caused not by airway blockage, but a failure of the brain to trigger a breathing cycle.
I've never heard of a fatal central apnea, but who knows?
Anyway, that's the primary reason to keep your setting at the lowest effective pressure.

Read a little more carefully. The article reports,
"He had been sleeping with a machine, ......". CPAP is not mentioned. For all we know,
the machine was one of these:

China Makes a Sexy, Slutty Robot
By Jason Chen
We were wondering when the first sexy robot was actually going to be sexy. What with the Karaoke android, the robot monkey, the Chinese beauty robot, and Korea's Ever-1 android all looking a might less than sexy, our hopes for a Human-Robot mating ritual were at an all time low. No longer!
This "Dion" robot from China can both "sing" (in Chinese) and look sexy. Yes, simultaneously. That's two more than Britney Spears can currently do. Check out the video to see her in all her slutty, mid-drift-revealing glory. – Jason Chen

But seriously, I wonder what happened to the poor guy. Maybe they gave him a basic machine and he did not have the software to see that his settings and mask leak were rendering the therapy ineffective?

Or....maybe his untimely death had nothing at all to do with OSA. Stuff happens.
I think when you take "...he had been sleeping with a machine..." in context with the preceding statement about a sleep apnea diagnosis, it's pretty obvious said machine was CPAP.
On the other hand, I might trade in my M-series Auto for a blond, round-eyed Chinese robot... I wonder if you can program her to purr "Quit snoring, you oaf!!!" so I'd feel at home?
Gotta go watch the video again! Maybe I'll find one in my Christmas tights?
