Hello all. I have been on CPAP therapy for three weeks or so now. I am feeling better and enjoying sleep for the first time in a long time. I just accessed my data for the first time and wonder what it means. My numbers are:
Leak 0.56L/s
VT 240-600
Resp Rate 11-15
MV 3.1-8.1
Press 4.2
AHI 12.0
AI 3.2
%SPONT T 0%
Thanks for any help in interpreting these numbers.

Lawdy!! WHAT are your IPAP, EPAP and Pressure Support settings??? 4.2 hardly lets most people breathe!
Assuming the Mask Selection on your VPAP Auto 25 is set correctly to the Standard selection since you are using a non-Resmed mask your TRUE Leak rate is 0.8 L/s. What is the "allowed vent rate" for your ComfortGel at your pressure setting? 0.4 L/s is pretty much the maximum we like to see w/the Resmeds and I've read that 0.6 L/s is the maximum the device can accurately compensate for (this would be after adding 0.4 to your 0.56 and comparing the results to your allowed vent rate at your pressure setting.
If I remember correctly 10-12 breaths per minute is the "norm" - but I forget if that is awake or asleep.
Your AI is still too high. We prefer to see the AI 0.1 or less.
Your AHI is also too high. We prefer to see the AHI less than 5.0. We expect to see the HI higher than the AI, especially w/the Resmeds given the method the Resmeds use in scoring hypopneas.
HOWEVER, the fact that you are FEELING better indicates that you are on the right track and are experiencing some improvement despite your data indicates that a closer look needs to be taken at your mask fit and therapy settings.

Re: Newbie with new data
Thanks for the quick reply. I will have to get with my tech on the details of that analysis. But, if I understand correctly the summary of what you are saying is that my pressure might be too low and my mask fit is not optimized. I really appreciate the detailed analysis. I am pretty technically proficient so I just need to learn
more about what the various parameters mean.

Re: Newbie with new data
Resmed are unique in that they have this Mask Selection feature. There is a specific Mask Selection setting for the various Resmed masks and w/the correct setting the Resmed automatically deduct the "allowed vent" rate before reporting the Leak rate. If one is not using a Resmed mask then one should use the Standard Mask Selection. At the Standard setting the Resmeds deduct 0.4 L/s (24 L/M) and you must then do the match yourself to know the true Leak rate.
The literature accompanying each mask has a table w/the allowed or built in vent (leak) rate for that mask along the left side of the table, and various pressure settings, usually 4 thru 20 along the bottom of the table and then a graph line will indicate the allowed vent rate at a specific xPAP pressure setting. I believe ALL the mask literature uses L/M so the Resmeds can be confusing when they report in L/s (L/M = litres per minute, L/s = litres per second).
IPAP = inhalation pressure, EPAP = exhaltion pressure and PS = pressure support which is usually the range of pressure between IPAP and EPAP (but not always).
As I remember it, the VPAP Auto 25 (July 2008 release) Users Manual doesn't provide as extensive information as the Users Manual of its immediate forerunner, the VPAP Auto (January 2008 release). Don't ask me WHY they released two versions of the VPAP Auto so close together!!!!

Re: Newbie with new data
In the clinical menu I see:
EPR Level:3
EPR Inhale: MED
EPR Acess:off
Leak Alert:off
Also,
CPAP: 5.0cmH2O
Mask:Ultra
I have been told by my home care rep to not change any settings. I am still in the first 30 days but I am trying to learn the menus, the settings, etc. so that I can discuss it intelligently with her. I have the clinical manual for my machine but am on a trip at the moment so I
don't have access to it.
Do I understand correctly that changing the mask setting to Standard only changes the readings and not the actual settings? I am disconnected from the cellular monitor while on this trip so I could tweak a setting as long as I set it back before reattaching the monitor.
