Auto CPAP: Resetting the starting pressure??

Post by DanielFobs » Thu Oct 08, 2009 6:30 pm

Hello CPAPers,

New CPAP user here. I own an Auto CPAP with A-Flex (Respironics?) Used it for the first time last night, but had a hard time getting to sleep. The default setting for the low pressure is a 4.0, but I feel like I really have to breathe in hard to feel like I am getting full breath. Can someone help me set that starting pressure to like a 6 or something? I just need more AIR when I lay to go to sleep... everything is perfect when I am sleeping though.

Any help would be soooo great!

P.S. Not falling a sleep at work today. YAY!

Welcome to the forum.
Below are instructions on how to get to the clinician menu to set your minimum pressure up a bit. I would have a hard time with 4 cm also.

Let us know if you need something clarified.

Menu for M Series Auto

1. Hold down the <- -> buttons while plugging in the power on the back, wait for 2 beeps, release buttons.
2. Press the + key. <- -> buttons move to next field, -/+ keys decrement/increment
3. Check the following field(s):

-Therapy Mode = (CPAP/Auto)

-Auto:Max = (default=20.0cm)

-Auto:Min = (default=4.0cm)

-C-Flex Setting = (options are off, 1, 2 or 3)

-AutoRamp Time = (options are 05 to 45 min)

-AutoRamp Pressure = cm (4cm->AutoMin)

-Mask Alert Feature = On (On/Off)

-Auto Off Feature = Off (On/off)

-Split Night Time = Off (off, 120, 180, 240)

-Show AHI/Leak Feature = On (On/Off)

Press On/Off button to exit.

==========Resetting LCD Display Data====================

To reset LCD Therapy data (does NOT erase any data from SmartCard):

1. Hold down the (<-) (->) buttons while plugging in the power on the back,
wait for 2 beeps or 5 seconds, release buttons.
2. Press the (->) key and navigate to Therapy screen.
3. Press and HOLD down the (-) minus key for 5 seconds and/or until therapy data is reset to Zero.
4. Press the (->) key to scroll back to main menu, press (+) key to enter Setup or
On/Off button to exit.

Awesome! I take it you have to hold the arrow keys THEN plug in the machine while continuing to hold them until it beeps. Correct?

Yep.
Once you do this a few times it becomes a breeze to do.
Watch your settings as they are (write them down) just in case you change something by mistake or want to change it back.

Hey Pugsy,

I see you are using nasal pillows. How well do those work? Does it make your nostrils hurt?

Nope. Only time I ever had the least bit of tenderness was when I had the head gear cranked up too tight. I used nasal pillows at the titration and haven't looked back. At the worst maybe tiny bit of tenderness.
Most of the time they are so comfortable that I have to touch my face to feel the air and know they are still in place.
I never have had the discomfort that so many complain of. Either I am tough or maybe some of the others have the headgear too tight. My brother in law tried them and rubbed a raw spot. So then I go over there and had him show me how he had worn them. OMG, so tight they were nearly in his ears and the right side was cranked up twice as far as the left side, so they weren't balance. No wonder his nose was raw.

I love the nasal pillows. I can wear the Swift LT, the Opus 360 and even the Nasal Aire II prongs without any discomfort.

Dan great if you're not a mouth breather. Ayr gel can help if nostrils get a bit raw.

I'm not sure what you mean by "start date", but the machines have an internal clock that's set to GMT at the factory.....then when you download the data, the timezone is adjusted to what is in your computer. There is no way for the user to set/reset the time......it can only be done at the factory (or by someone who has the special/expensive cable and software to do it).
These machines tend to lose time, over time.......about a minute per month.
