Mirage Liberty leaks?

Post by algorhythm » Wed Oct 07, 2009 5:51 am

Here is my mask progression:

ResMed Swift 2 (Didn't like it, couldn't sleep on one side)
F&P HC431 (Didn't seal correctly around the mask)
ResMed Swift LT (Worked alright but I started wearing out my chinstrap so I moved on)
ResMed Mirage Liberty

Right now I'm on the Mirage Liberty but I have a big concern -- the nasal pillows. Apparently my nares are HUGE and even the large pillows do not seal properly. What happens is no matter what, the front middle of my pillows (the front of my nose closest to the tip) always leaks. I can twist and adjust and reseat all night (which I wake up many times in the night to do) but I am always getting horrid leak rates.. .38, .40, .68, etc. Surprisingly, my numbers have gone down since the Swift LT.. the .38 night I had a 4.0 AHI with 0 AI 4.0 HI @ 10cm/h2o.

It feels like the pillows want to stay upright like this: || when my nose needs them to be slightly slanted like this: /\. Does anyone have any suggestions? I love this mask but the nasal pillows are just not sealing correctly it seams... I wish they made XL nasal pillows

Have you tried the "ladies tights fix"? If not, search on that phrase for several descriptions and variations.

If that doesn't work, I'd say nasal pillows aren't for you.

Check out WhiteBeard's fix for the Liberty (and/or Hybrid) mask: viewtopic.php?p=280295#p280295

Ingenious, and it works!

I've been using the Hybrid for a few nights now, and I adopted this fix (minus the hair bands on the sides, which I don't need; my "fix" consists of the hair bands going around the pillows and up over my nose to the top headgear strap). Keeps the pillows in place, very comfortable, and no leaks! My AHI is a little higher with this mask so far (and there's lots more recorded snore), but the leak line is awesome. I have the hose down by my side with this mask, because routing overhead produces lots of noise from the exhaust air hitting the hose. The increased snore could be due to the hose rubbing against the bed, even with a fleece cover on it. At my 12cm, the Hybrid's leak rate should be around 42 lpm. Here's last night's data:

Here's a recent night with the FullLife, which produces better numbers but leaves a bump on my nose. At 12cm with this mask, the leak rate should be around 32 lpm:

Give WhiteBeard's fix a try.
Veni, vidi, Velcro. I came, I saw, I stuck around.

Dx 11/07: AHI 107, central apnea, Cheyne Stokes respiration, moderate-severe O2 desats. (Simple OSA would be too easy. ;))
