So frustrated with everytnhing I could cry!!!!

Post by rise&shiner » Tue Oct 06, 2009 4:16 pm

I am so upset. This is my update to an earlier thread that I left about switching equipment. Now I have to start all over. After spending 2 days begging and bleeding with DME to switch me to the Resmed Auto 8 which they finally decided to do, I receive a rental Respironics M series which they then say they sent me out by mistake and will send me the correct unit and then today I receive the Resmed Autoset 8 only to find out that they set me a refurbished unit with an updated 4I humidifier water chamber which started leaking because it was in the 3I base. When I call up the DME and talked to the RT who said that they only send out refurbished units when a patient switches to another machine because insurance carrier won't pay for another new machine. WHich is such a LIE because my insurance carrier said empatically that they would pay without a problem since the first one was faulty. I even called the insurance company again today and they said that they will absolutely pay for a new machine, but because I am now in grievance appeal I have to wait all for answer to switch to another DME.

So now I am starting all over no mask, no machine, NO SLEEP. I don't have the energy to fight this and look for a full time job at the same time and now my spouse is getting upset with me because he thinks I am finding one excuse after another to not find another job which isn't true. I am just so exhausted that I am only functioning about 10% of my day. If you think I was depressed before which my doctor definitely is related to my OSA, can you only imagine what I feel like now.

I just feel like giving up on all of this but then the only who would be hurt by that decision is me so I need some words of encouragement to hang in there. Thanks for letting me vent and please send a reply.

I'm not even at the stage you're at in getting equipment.

But, I do send you a big {{{HUG}}} right now. It sounds like you're doing everything you can do but are just hitting brick walls in the process.

Hang in there. Everyone keeps telling me we're doing the right thing. And that, when we finally get everything settled, we're going to feel better. So, just hang in there a bit longer, ok?

Take care of yourself right now. Do something fun and special for yourself tonight. Just something you enjoy doing.

And, know that someone does care about you. I think there are a lot of people here who do.

Another {{{HUG}}} for you.

Yes do hang in there. I know its hard especially when you are soooooo tired. But the end product will be soo worth it. I am new to this, only had my machine for 2 and a half weeks, been through some tough things with it too. Especially the mask. Finally after two phone calls have a new mask and last night was pretty darn good. I am hoping my energy level will be coming back after I get caught up on lost sleep. *Hugs* to you.

I'm sorry you're going through this. If crying will help, do it, it's a great release. You're taken all the right steps, and the waiting part is hard. But, don't give up...you're so close, and it will all resolve....in just a little more time.

I'm still waiting for my equipment, and in the meantime, my yoga teacher advised me to concentrate on deep breathing, 20 long slow breaths before I go to sleep. It really did seem to help. And I do it in the morning too, to get the cobwebs out of my brain.

Hang in there.

It seems hard to say, when you are going through so much stress. Harder to do.

But, now you know why so many people in this Forum advocate taking control of your own therapy as soon as possible. Which you are doing. You are working on getting the right machine for you. And that's not easy to accomplish, unless you can afford to pay out of pocket, which most of us can't.

Know that everyone here is rooting for you. Too many of us have dealt with unscrupulous DMEs.

In the meantime, try some deep breathing before you go to sleep, and try to sleep on your side if you can.

Thanks for all the hugs and the breathing suggestions!!! I got back on the phone this afternoon with my DME and talked to a supervisor. She is having an all new resmed autoset II with 4Hi humidifier sent to my local case manager tomorrow and hopefully on Thursday he will come out here and set it up.

The supervisor did advise me to try my Mirage Liberty mask with the new machine and see if I am having all of the side effects that I was having with the Respironics Remstar Auto AFlex 510 see if my problems were related to the defective humidifier or if I was indeed have massive leaks from the mask as well.

I am willing to do this because the other mask that they were going to send to me was the Full Life which didn't get very good reviews in the challenge results that were announced earlier today.

Baby steps is okay if I am going in the right direction and I know that mask issues are real common so I don't mind that particular struggle, I just want to feel that I am not starting this journey from square one so right now I do feel like maybe I am making some progress.

It seems like the DME is trying to resolve these issues but they need to have their RT's go through more training on how to communicate better with their clients. So I am still frustrated but I am past shedding the tears for now.

Thanks again.

I'm really glad things are moving in a positive direction.

And I agree with you that most DME employees, whether RTs or not, need more training in communication. Perhaps you've helped your DME start that process....

I am so sorry that you are going thru this! I have a cpap but it's the one that everyone here told me was not very good. I still need to get myself on the phone to ask for a different one...I'm not good at confrontation.
I am still so tired after 5 days of therapy that I feel like crying too, so we'll cry together! But then we'll stick it out and we WILL get better! It is hard to be patient in cases like these. I hope your spouse will get a grip! It's so easy to judge when one hasn't walked in the other's shoes!
hugs!
