This week I wake up in the morning and there's a swelling on the side of my face.
(Normally I sleep on my back, but for the last few months I've trained myself to sleep on my side.)
The swelling site is rather specific - vertical alongside and parallel to my nose. And it ends at the base of my nose - where it's about half an inch wide. I'm not congested. And it's not painful to touch.
Does anyone else have this problem? It's a new one for me...

Does the mask come into contact with the portion of the face that is irritated and swollen? It could be mask rash, from it pressing on the specific area.

oh right, of course.
it's where the edge of the mask is along the side of my face.
so any suggestions for what to do?

There are two possible ways to go--pre and post cpap treatment. If you want to treat it after it happens, 1% Cortisone and Aloe cream works well. DO NOT put this on when you are going to wear the mask, but use it after.oh right, of course.

The other would be to check the tightness and positioning of the mask. Are the straps too tight or too lose? Is there water on the Silicone from a humidifier, or residual moisture from washing the mask? Either of the "water" issues can cause considerable irritation.

helpful suggestions, Autopapdude (or can I simply call you "APD"...)
it's odd cause I've been using this mask from the beginning of my cpap experience earlier this year.
I s'pose I could try doing without the humidifier and see if that makes a difference tonite. It's on the lowest setting.
As for pressure -- there's been no change in the past 4 months. but maybe i'll try sleeping on my back and see if I still get a rash.

Re: swollen side of face in morning - anyone else?
Glad to hear someone else has this problem. My mask goes from the bridge of nose to under mouth. In the AM the area under my eyes is puffy and swollen. It lasts most of the day. But I'll try and loosen mask - maybe that will help. Thanks
