Hi 5aces.
You have started a fascinating thread that brings out the tidbits information that could pertain to many peoples lives.
And, help us all understand more of the cpap testing process.
If you are using a pillows mask, I found that my nares could not stand the direct pressure that pillows mask throw out. I have had success with nasal masks.
I also wondered if during a sinus infection you have tried nasal rinses. There are various ways to do this. Some cpap users swear by a neti pot. I tried it once and swore at it. I think it must be a learned skill. My doctor recommended a Grossan Nasal Irrigator, there are several brands of this type of nasal irrigator. I got mine online. I started using the Grossan for nasal rinsing, it took about 5 months to get the infections, irritations to stop. For the first time in my adult life, I went 10 months without a sinus infection. It is am amazing feeling to be finally able to breathe out of my both sides of my nose. I don't use the nasal rinsing on a regular basis now. But at the first sign of stuffy nose, I start using it.
For the last 15 years I usually have several sinus infections a year, all requiring one or more prescriptions for antiobiotics.
And in that period I had 5 extensive nasal surgeries. Since starting nasal rinses I have not had to have an antiobiotic for almost a year, and of course I haven't needed surgery. Knock on wood, that this keeps working for me.
I wish you well the challenges, and torturous practices they are requiring you to do. And I admire your calm attitude as you work your way though situations that are critical to your profession.
