What does ayr gel do?

Post by CareS » Fri Sep 09, 2005 12:12 pm

I just ordered a Swift on-line from cpap.com. The DME in Ottawa wanted $231.00 plus the 15% sales taxes so I am wondering what the final costs will be from Cpap.com. I can't imagine it costing nearly what the DME here wants. I will know ten days from now when it is delivered. Should I be making sure I have "Ayr Gel" available? I am currently using an Aptiva but find I can't sleep with it more than 3-1/2 hours without having to remove it for the remainder of the night so half the night I am sleeping maskless. I would like to be able to sleep 5 or 6 hours and hoping I will be able to with the swift. Those of you with Swifts (and Ayr gel) do you find you can sleep longer without being bothered as much with the cumbersome mask? I know the Aptiva is one of the best masks, the FF is impossible for me. One hour is my limit on that. I like to fall asleep watching TV so here's hoping this Swift mask works, if not I will have to settle for one and a half to three hours of cpap per night with the Aptiva. I am finding as time goes on that I am having less and less tolerance for wearing the mask. CareS

I really did not have any problems with the Swift and I did not have to use the ayr gel. My wife did and said the gel helped her get use to the Swift mask her nose dried out with using the swift .The gel helped her get use to the mask. My wife no longer uses the Ayr Gel and loves the Swift

you are welcome. What happened to the Comfortcurve? Do you still use it? My wife likes the swift better than the CC. To me I like both, for comfort I like the CC but for being totally 100% reliable I like the swift.

To Th, Yes I still have the comfort curve and got the new headpiece which is much improved. I use the pantyliners instead of the cheekpads but I found it didn't seal properly and even with the folded PL's I find the cheekpads too snug. I have a problem wearing anything on my face including my eyeglasses. I am hoping with the Swift that I can set my elevated TV on timer and fall asleep watching TV. I also have a problem removing masks in my sleep. CareS

CareS,

I really like the Swift mask. I tried others but couldn't adjust to them. Even when my pressures when sky high (to me any way) from 10 to 17, I still kept using the Swift and within a week my nares adjusted just fine. Good thing too because I was dreading the idea of having to find another mask!

I tried locating some Ayr Gel but must have been looking in all the wrong places. I ended up buying a generic type of lubricant from Safeway. Would still like to find the Ayr gel if someone could direct me to where (e.g what store and what department).

Hope you like the Swift too!

Thanks...I went to WalMart but I must be looking in the wrong place. That store is so big. I guess I'll have to ask one of the "greeters" for help.

Mask at does ayr gel do?

Post by CareS » Sat Sep 10, 2005 7:30 am

To
Fatigue Fighter, Thanks for your reply. I am hoping the Swift will be the answer to my growing intolerance for wearing a mask at night. Last night it was 58 minutes on the Aptiva before it got removed in my sleep. In spite of that I can't say I feel worse in the morning as long as I get some time on the machine I seem to be OK. I got myself a ceiling fan so perhaps that is doing it for me...just kidding. Is there such a thing as a mask that you are totally unaware that it is on or just slightly aware? CareS

I think I used to put off going to bed when I only had a nasal mask, even though I had no complaints about it. I would take it off about 5.00am and then fall asleep again and go back to anything up to 80 apneas per hour.

Now it is only this forum that keeps me from going to bed at a reasonable time. (Late nights baby-sitting my grandchildren destroyed my recent attempts of having a 10pm curfew).

What I am getting at is that I am definitely less aware of my new Swift "pillow" than I was of my mask. I wear it VERY LOOSE with the hose up but I know some Swift wearers prefer the hose down (I might give that another try) as someone suggested it was less noisy. It's great for reading & watching television.

Persist with it, put it back on if you wake & find it's off ..... and soon you'll be keeping it on all night.

Last night I didn't use my Swift for the first time in a month. Instead, I spent the night only semi-reclined in a reclining armchair with a ComfortSelect mask because I was so congested.

Surprisingly, I slept very well!

My only problem is I woke at 4:30 with chest congestion; wheezing and coughing. This cold seems to be moving out of my head and into my chest. Not good! .

I feel for you Bill. I dread the thought of being congested and not able to use my machine. I once had pneumonia and had to sleep sitting up in a chair for 3 days. Nearly 2 years ago I completely snapped my upper arm (which couldn't be set) and had to sleep in an arm-chair for 3 months (wish I'd had CPAP) so I don't look forward to doing it again.

Get well soon
Margaret

Thanks Margaret. For me it is doubly frustrating as I was supposed to be racing tomorrow. But I think I'll have to eliminate myself; I don't know that I'll be up to maneuvering a car at high speeds by tomorrow.

I got so fed up one night that I took a pair of scissors to the back side of the CC cheek pads to make them thinner...it works so much better now, even better then pantyliners since I've extremely allegic to adhesives and was always worried about the adhesive getting on my face. My cheek pads may not look as pretty on the back side now, but the side towards me is still smooth...I used a small pair of rounded tipped scissors I have for embroidery that are very sharp...it would have been harder if they had a pointy end or were too big to not accidenlty go all the way through. I say they need to forget the different color plastic 'bows' for the CC and make different thickness cheekpads...but what do we know...we're only the people who have to use these things night after night
