1. No. I'm with some of the others who think vaccines can be more dangerous than what they are supposed to prevent. Like Muse, I'm also someone who supplements with Vitamin D. I take 10,000 units per day in the winter and 5,000 per day during the summer. I've been doing that for about 3 years now and have noticed a significant reduction in how often I get a flu or cold. And when I do get one, the recovery generally takes about 3 days and symptoms are relatively mild.

I actually got bronchitis this season, though! My whole family got it. There was a period of about 5 days where my throat felt funny, and about week's worth of post nasal drip symptoms. But that was it. I didn't go on anti-biotics and it was pretty much gone after about 3 weeks.

2. Yes - But this might depend on who you are. If you can get rid of sleep apnea by losing weight, then I guess it's no longer chronic (at that weight, at least.) For me, I would say it's chronic because I have it pretty bad even at a normal weight. Without intervention of some kind, the condition persists, therefore, for me, it's chronic.

No. Caught H1N1 in the fifty's, while in the Navy.

No, but can cause many problems related to sleep deprivation.

1. Yes, my employer is requiring the flu shots unless there is a religious opposition or medical contraindication.
2. Yes, OSA is a chronic health condition.

As a health care worker, I'm required to get the shots. So I'll be lining up to get mine just as soon as it's ready.

And yes, sleep apnea is a chronic condition.

1: No, no more flu shots for me, and no H1N1 either.... I got 10 years of shots, as an adult, consecutively, and was sicker and sicker for longer and longer from about year 5 on.... and not with the flu!! The shot allowed an already existing viral (my guess...) to get going again since my immune system is busy messing with the vaccination. The viral illness presents as a bronchiatis which just will not quit!!! Last flu shot I had was the year before the major shortage, and shortage year was the first year in a bit that I have not had a bout of Winter/Spring bronchiatis. It was the only changed variable....

2: Yes, the issues for which I am treated with CPAP are chronic without treatment....and hopefully with treatment some of the damage of the last 30 or so years (yes thirty....no typo) can be fixed.... I have no breathing issues awake, so I doubt this meets the criteria for deciding priority for the shots, if that was the purpose of the question. But, I don't want/won't take anyway so it doesn't much matter. I am not around kids, nor anyone with medically compromised immune systems (chemo, etc.,)

Yes and
Yes

Hubby was in at the doctors today and he said it doesn't look like it will be ready now until Jan. Regular flu vaccin in about 5 weeks.

We do get the flu shot yearly as one son used to have asthma and had several bouts of pneumonia. Husband gets pneumonia (if not heavy bronchitis) yearly when he skips his shot. He'll still get some chest infections in the winter if exposed but not nearly as bad if he hadn't gotten the shot. It usually doesn't develop into pneumonia with the shot. Without the shot, I can guarantee pneumonia.
These beautiful kids in my avi are my motivation for getting healthy and staying compliant. Need to be around a long time. See my new blog at http://creativekidscakeslife.blogspot.com/ Baking Blog http://feedingtheravenoushorde.blogspot.com

I'll probably get the regular flu shot. I am still on the fence about H1N1 flu shots.

If you consider diabetes a chronic condition, you should probably consider apnea a chronic condition. Both require physical intervention and education to some degree.

1. No
2. Maybe

My first neurologist was world-renown for his expertise in auto-immune neuromuscular diseases. He told me to "never" get a flu shot. He said they were a myth (maybe fraud?) perpetrated by the drug companies. He said it had been shown that where you most need them to work (people living together in close quarters like barracks, dorms, nursing homes), they didn't cut down on the transmission or severity. His advice was to take an anti-viral med if exposed to the flu or actually sickened by it.

An older friend of mine tried to get a prescription for Tamiflu from her doctor just in case. She promised not to fill it unless she got sick. He said no way. They weren't sure that there would be enough to go around anyway without people getting "just in case" prescriptions to fill and hoard it.

1. Yes. I'd probably get it even if I wasn't required/strongly-encouraged/highly-recommended to get it. Only because I've had it bad with the flu in the past. And, generally get the flu shot each year (ever since it was recommended by my doctor that I get it). Now that I work at a state University and work in an area of sufficient importance. Basically, I've been told that even if I get the swine flu...I'll still be expected to work as needed from home-quarantine....unless I die. Just as there was none of this putting in for short-term disability because I mangled up my right arm in a bike accident....the only time I've taken off for the accident was the half day that I was in the ER. Basically, the same with a co-worker that broke his right hand when he had his bike accident the week after me.

Plus odds are pretty high that I'll cross paths with somebody with the swine....

Plus, before I asked my doctor about it....he told me when to call back about getting it....

2. I say yes.

I feel pretty close to death sleeping off a flu...I don't know how I would feel with CPAP in the mix....bad enough that I still haven't worked out the what mask shall I use when nasal pillows won't. Though I think I'm waiting to see when my DME gets the fulllife in....

That's what my brother says about them....and he's a professor at a University....though he isn't teaching this semester..... My parents used to say something similar, but then they got old.... Last I heard they were playing it be ear on the H1N1, because they are planning to travel overseas next month....
