Insomnia Sufferers: New Book/Hypnosis CD

Post by BleepingBeauty » Fri Sep 11, 2009 10:25 am

If you suffer from insomnia, you might want to check out this new book (and CD) from Paul McKenna. (I don't have insomnia, and I'm not recommending the book/cd; just passing along the info.)

Veni, vidi, Velcro. I came, I saw, I stuck around.

Dx 11/07: AHI 107, central apnea, Cheyne Stokes respiration, moderate-severe O2 desats. (Simple OSA would be too easy. ;))

PR S1 ASV 950, DreamWear mask, F&P 150 humidifier, O2 @ 2L.

Rusty, I saw you wrote in another thread that the entrainment audio has not worked for you. I downloaded three 3Hz Delta tracks from Amazon, and even though I like them, they have not helped me to sleep. Instead, I use some relaxing classical music. I particularly like to fall asleep to Chopin's nocturnes. The thunderstorms, waves and waterfall sounds do not occupy my mind enough, so it was able to run away with various problem solving thoughts. Although I'm a musician and thus music can get my mind going, I find the Chopin piano draws me in enough to get the racing thoughts stopped. Ultimately I will relax, though not always sleep. Since I play guitar and not piano, I'm not visualizing my hands on the keyboard/fretboard, as I do with guitar music. I've also found a light, but not too gripping audio book sometimes works for me. There's a series of CDs "The Most Relaxing...." I got a few at Best Buy and have seen others at Amazon.Com. These are nice for variety and not very expensive. They have all sorts of music including piano and guitar.

Anyway, just some thoughts.

I have Dr. Thompson's Delta Sleep System, two CD set (MP3's actually) there's some freebie MP3's here that you'll probably like http://www.sleepphones.com/downloads

Getting to sleep is one thing, but the biggest issue for me is staying asleep. I ping-pong between Wake & N1 and occasionally dip to N2 all night long. Best I did at the titration on 12.5mg of AmbienCR was N3 for 1.25 hours and it was fragmented between N3 & N2. My time in N1 & N2 is typically 1 minute with an occasional 2-5 minutes. 31 total minutes of REM was made up of 13 fragments. One day when I can find a scanner to use, I'll scan my PSG charts and post them for entertainment.
