picking the right cpap machine

Post by jstac » Sat Sep 05, 2009 11:02 pm

I am a new cpap user. I never got the chance to look at any cpap machines I was just given to use from the doctors office which they then billed my insurance. They gave me the RESmed S8 escape 2 with a pressure of 12. That machine was not doing good for me. I was told that they would have me use an Auto machine since an auto machine does not necessarily go right to the cpap pressure prescribed by the doctor. So I started looking on internet sites for machines that might work and that I would like to try to use. My list was narrowed to 3 machines. The new Respironics PR System 1 Auto cpap w/c-flex plus, The RESmed Auto Set 2, and the Fisher and Paykel sleepstyle 200 series HC254. I am leaning towards the PR system 1 but the CPAP 2 Go company which I deal with has not approved selling it yet. Anyone out there use any of these machines or have your own reviews to help me get the right machine that I will be using for the next 5 years as that is when my insurance will pay for a new machine.

I own the PR System One REMstar Auto and you can read my review here (mine's the one dated Aug. 31st):

There is also a detailed lengthy thread on this machine here:

Your DME will likely carry this machine eventually. It's rather new... has only been out since Aug. 17th and most brick and mortar DME's don't have it yet.

I hope this helps.

Just note that many members here stongly advocate the use of software to read and display your detailed efficacy data.

Right now, there is no software available to end-users for the PR System One machine. There is professional software for it, but no forum members have found a copy yet. There are rumors that a patient version of the software is coming, but nothing is certain. There is software available for the Respironics M-Series Autos, but they are being discontinued. You should still be able to find them, however.

The software for the S8 AutoSet II is not available for sale to end-users in the US at this time. However, many forum members have successfully ordered it from cpapaustralia.com. There are no restrictions on the software in Australia.

One forum member has received a free copy of the software for the F&P HC254. That came directly from F&P. I don't know if they are giving it to everyone, or where it is available for sale.

Just another factor for you to consider.
