It was slightly humiliating to go to Starbucks at 6 a.m. the next morning covered in "sticky cream," but I did it anyways. My lust for coffee (especially pre-treatment) is greater than my pride will ever be.

Looking back it wasn't humiliating, but I delayed the lab for over 2 years because I believed it could be. I used to toss a lot and before I began sleeping nude I would wake up that way because my bed clothes twisted all around and were painful. I was quite concerned that I was going to be filmed while asleep and be embarrassed over it. I was tricked into going but spoke at length with the tech making sure he understood this was not funny to me and he assured me until I was convinced.

The fact of it is that being wired up kept me at a "less unconscious" state and they woke me many times in the night telling me to turn this way, then that. The next morning the tech assured me I behaved all night and offered to let me see my tape. He uses the tape to get the report accurate then tapes over them the next night.

Of course now I wish I had not delayed the study and received treatment as early on as possible. Bottom line is that the concern is real, however it is unfounded.

Here in Dallas, TX, I experienced no humiliation although my first test felt like they "stole my soul." However, my reasons for that were totally personal based on dream analysis that helped me YEARS ago unlock hidden secrets. My sleep tech was perfectly professional and very good at advising me of the process. I am so glad my cardiologist recommended this that I cannot resent any so-called exposure I went through. My goodness, the typical female tests one endures are so much more humiliating, that this was just so much more gentle in scope.

Nothing humiliating unless you count having them listen to you snore all night. I sleep/slept in pajamas. The camera only covers the bed and they assure you they can't see anything in the bathroom. I am sure some people are exhibitionists but I just changed clothes in the bathroom. They only need access to your head and your lower leg. I figure they listen to people snore all the time so no big deal on that.

This is my 15th day since my test. i had two done. and my sleep study was okay. i didn't have to go anywhere but into my room, which was set up like a hotel room, i was allowed to watch tv, read etc as if i was home. the tech person explained everything to me. and all my questions where answered. I brought my own PJ'S and robe and slippers. and when I had a problem in falling to sleep, I was allowed to take a over the counter sleeping pill. which helped me fall to sleep. Of course the bed wasn't all that comfortable but so isn't the hotels/motels. I just had to deal with it. I did ask for a extra pillow and blanket. it's a hospital they have plenty. I have been in and and out of hospitals for different reasons through the years. and I have not felt humiliated in nothing yet, i remember they use to have gowns that left your butt showing, well no fear, i just ask for two, one for the front and one for the back. then you dont have to parade through the hallway with ur butt out.. ALL ways remember you have control of you.. if you don't like something speak up.. chances is that person will cover your needs, thats what their there for.

Heck, I was so spoiled during my sleep tests - both times - I miss it now. Why doesn't someone come check when my Liberty Mirage mask leaks sometimes? Yeah, I'm a lonely old maid caregiver for my elderly mater, but still I did not feel violated except that my fat upper arms showed in the pyjamas I chose to wear. My bad!

Stereo?

It was more like 27-channel surrond sound. Including a subwoofer.

Wires on several places on my face & chin, billions (it seemed) of wires on scalp, bands around chest & abdomen, wires on legs, sensor inside nose, sensor taped to finger...now go to sleep...yeah like that's gonna happen anytime soon
