My Machine turned off!!!!

Post by FatiguedMe » Sat Aug 29, 2009 7:44 am

Last night I woke up to find my machine was NOT running! I sleep with nasal pillows and this freaked me out. Has anyone had this happen before? What caused it? ACKKKKK!

Do you have the auto-shutoff function on your machine enabled? If so, perhaps you dislodged the mask badly enough for the auto-shutoff to kick in.

I wonder what your machine does if the power is interrupted for just a few seconds.

I checked and my auto off is not turned on. Plus I have the mask off alarm turned on. Nothing else in the house shows an interruption of power ex: all clocks were still on. UGHH I have no idea what happened, just know I don't want this to happen again. Concerns me because of the rebreathing thru the pillows.

Check to see if the power cords are loose.

I agree with Gumby as this very thing happened to me last spring and when investigating I found the power supply was loose. I guess in my sleep I some how had dislodged it. I was able to restart the machine with it being in that condition, but shudder to think that if I hadn't caught it my machine probably would have had additional episodes of shutting itself off.

I am assuming you woke up right away, as I do if the power goes out and the machine turns off. I also use nasal pillows and I am awake within seconds when this happens. There is an exhalation vent on nasal pillow masks same as on other masks so there should be no big risk.

I don't know how sensitive the machines are to power outages. We have some electrical equipment that goes off if there is even a couple of seconds of power outage, while other electrical equipment stays on for brief (seconds) power outages.

Also, as suggested, check to see that all the plugs are securely in.

Have you turned on your machine since this happened? Is it running fine?

Maybe you should consider getting a "Power Failure Alarm". I see that cpap.com is selling them for $16.95.

Plugs checked and all are fine. I rolled back over when I found it off and turned it back on. It ran fine for the rest of the night. My AHI today is .09 leaks were 32 and I feel like Cr*p. I am gonna post my report from last night and see if anyone can see something I am not seeing.

As mentioned, sometimes it is not a complete outage but a dip in the power that will toggle a device into the OFF state. Some will have a different threshold. Did you have rain or storms in your area? Some power Co.'s list problems on their web page.

I think more testing is required - meaning go back to sleep. LOL

LOL I do need to go back to sleep! Too much to do today though! WAAAAA! If we had anything it sure doesn't look like it today. Oh well. I will just keep an eye on this and see if it occurs again.

I like to use the link labeled "Thumbnail" bc it uploads small for those who are still using dial-up it doesn't take forever to load. But you can click the pic to see a larger image, if you choose. Use the Thumbnail link.

There have been previous reports of this happening.......and it turned out to be the power brick.

If it persists, I'd suggest seeing if you can get a different power brick and see if that fixes it.

You were very stressed last night when the machine went off and probably stressed the rest of the night even though you turned it back on. At least that's the way I would be!

I am not surprised that you don't feel very rested today!

I can't really see your data clearly but it does look quite good.

Hopefully it was a "one time" glitch!

I remember, early on, when I first got this machine, it started to beep during the night out of nowhere for no reason that I could see. I had an older machine and it never happened with it (same brand different model). I unplugged it and plugged it in again and everything was fine for the rest of the night.

I was stressed about what problem it might be for the rest of the night and for the next night! It never happened again! That was a year and a half ago.

Hope it is the same for you!
