What if you max out on pressure?

Post by jweeks » Wed Aug 26, 2009 8:40 pm

Hi,

I have been looking to buy a spare machine. I am currently at 13/20 for pressure. I notice that many machines max out at a pressure of 20, and a few more expensive machines will go to 25. This makes me curious...what if my treatment pressure creeps up as I get older, and I end up needing more pressure than what a machine can deliver? Are there more sophisticated machines that go higher? Can a human even tolerate something above 25? Does a trache become the only option at that point, or do the sleep doctors have other tricks that work?

Would you believe that I asked that question of my doc... plus I've read some about it on here...

CPAP/APAP goes up to 20
BIPAP goes higher... my auto will do 24 (or is it 25)
and there are other machines that will go higher than that.

Your machine goes to 25 cm, I'd look at the leak rate, and keep it as low as possable, that may allow you to run at the lowest pressure you can. The leak rate has to be under control before the data reads correctly, or the machines finds the best pressure to operate at. Jim
