Do we need different pressure with different masks?

Post by williamco » Wed Aug 19, 2009 11:55 am

May I ask, in general do we need different pressure with different masks? nasal versus face, or even full face from full face of different brand?
I notice different leak on the report as well as different behaviour of the machine whithin its range, different AHI
Thanks for input

Different masks will have different leak rates but the machines are designed to compensate for the different leak rates (in CPAP mode).

So to answer your question, no need to change pressure just because you change masks.

Forgot to add that some have reported a change in AHI scoring when changing masks ... usually associated with APAP mode. When using APAP, there is a feedback loop between the airflow and the APAP algorithm. Change in mask can change airflow and therefore how APAP responds to events. This may increase or even possibly decrease AHI score.
President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

There is a marked difference in feel for me between my regular mask (Quattro), and my travel mask (ComfortFull2). I often use an extra 1/2 point on the ComfortFull2

Need .... probably not. But ....
Different masks have different venting rates,
and, as already stated, they also may produce different respiratory event indices (in both CPAP and Auto modes).
In addition, they may also exhibit (in AutoPAP mode) different maximum, 9x%, median and average pressures,
as well as different pressure profiles (amount of time at different pressure ranges).
Differences are real. I have posted relevant data at:

How clinically significant differences are, and whether the differences merit pressure adjustment, is an open question.
If you stick with one mask, and have the desire and the data capability, you might want to optimize settings for that mask.
