Good News To Share

Post by DoriC » Fri Aug 14, 2009 3:12 pm

This was a red letter day I have to share. I went out to do some errands today and when I returned home my husband was clearly able to tell me that I received 3 phone calls ,who they were from, and what the conversations were about. He repeated a pretty detailed message from Verizon about a billing complaint I had made. On the same subject, I had to take a phone call Sunday while we were watching an old afternoon movie. When I came back into the den, he was able to tell me exactly what part I had missed. I tell you this because since cpap, I believe I have gotten my husband back from the brink. I know that cpap can prevent further damage but does it also repair what's been lost? As most of you know, he's no youngster. I'm also hoping that some newbies who are still struggling will find some encouragement from this. BTW, last night's report showed AHI=0.7(H=0.6 -OA=0.1)

That's awesome! I wish I could get my HI down that low. I've never seen it below 1.0. Does he use a Respironics machine by any chance?

Wow DoriC, that's wonderful news...you must be delighted!

Absolutely! My mind before my now ended 6-month loose lips adventure (i.e., setbask, backslide) was fully back, as sharp as it ever was...my short-term memory was much improved and continuing to show small improvements...no more having to put yellow stickies on chest to remind myself of what I was doing .

During my setback, it was so frustrating to watch those gains disappear, but my new Hybrid mask seems to be working to overcome the setback 'cause I have been able to read and comprehend the article jnk (I think, see short-term memory just isn't all the way back yet) posted a link to in Circulation about apnea for cardiologists...even discussed it with my cardio doc this morning! Great gain for me.

It sure is encouraging for me. I'm still struggling to find the right pressure (and to feel better), and posts like this really help me to keep plugging away at it.

I'm so happy for you and your husband, Dori!

great news Dori, I am so happy for you both. I'm still struggling with a level of functioning similar to his, and this gives me hope. Thanks for sharing, it lifted my spirits.

The brain has an amazing ability to get back into balance (except for after life-threatening traumatic injury for example). I am counting on my brain to heal once I get the correct therapy that will give it the chance.

From what I understand, the brain can even rewire itself when whole sections of brain are damaged or physically missing. There are limits I'm sure, but the human body is amazing. Just wanted to say that... not to hijack the thread.
