Well ... I'm without sin ... at least by my own definition of it so I'll cast the first stone ... and the second if no one else wants to.

I don't watch football (lost interest way back in the early 80's) so I have no ball in the game.

The sentence he served for what he was accused of and what he confessed to doing is hardly a debt paid to society (at least our American society).

Sure there are others who have done worse things to animals and continue to do so (and they too should be punished and then Darwinized) ... but that is no excuse to let someone who wants to make millions to get a second chance because others may make millions along side with him. I have no sympathy for this guy and I think that the same standards he imposed on those innocent dogs should be imposed on him ... the first game he loses ... electrocute him, then hang him, then drown him, then burn his remains and throw them in a dumpster.

Rooster my friend, good on ya for your work w ex cons.

That said, perhaps your work w the prison system has acquainted you w the statistics that sociopaths and psychopaths have the greatest degree of recidivism; and, that there is a clear link between cruelty toward animals and psychopathic behavior. You can google this, but here is just one quote of many...

Cruelty to animals in general shows psychopathic or sociopaths personality disorder. These people tend to not see the object of their cruelty as something that has feelings or feels pain, to them it is just an object that they feel is for their pleasure. These people lack the ability to feel empathy, regret, remorse. etc. A lot of serial killers and or murders and abusers have shown a tendency to animal cruelty when they are children or youths. Treatment for this situation is a must. Though often medical and mental help does nothing to change these peoples thoughts and desires. ...
See more information http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychopath

IIRC Mister Vick didn't just arrange dog fights, he also tortured to death animals that didn't meet his sick standards (I would double check this, but I hate reading these kinds of gruesome details.)

Sociopaths are experts at posing as repentant, but they have no conscience and a twisted need to keep doing risky stuff.

I'm with you, Rooster, that a lot of cons should get that second chance; but I don't believe Mister Vick deserves one, or that he will truly change is outlook or ways.

The Eagles have replace (ugh) the Raiders as this doggie owner's new, least favorite NFL team.

....
Cap'n,

That opinion I respect and you explained it well. I certainly don't think he should ever be given a third chance. You make a good point about not being able to read all he did. Maybe if I had the stomach to read all he did, I would not even want him to have the second chance. But the Eagles and the Humane Society are trying to give him one. Now it is up to Vick to make something out of it.

It will be interesting and gut-wrenching to watch the 60 Minutes interview.

I do believe every man is redeemable by his Maker. But not every man accepts redemption.

Maybe we will be around to revisit this thread in five years.

Regards,

From the reports I've heard, Vick was personally involved with the hanging, drowning and electrocution of non-performing dogs.

Since he already had fame, and fortune, and adulation, there's only one reason he did it. It was fun.

And you can be sure that everything Vick, Andy Reid, and team owner Jeff Lurie says has been scripted by their spin doctors.

Vick now wants to stop animal abuse? Lurie took days to make this agonizing decision? Oh, please.

He deserves a second chance to make a life for himself.

But a second chance to be a sports hero? No friggin' way.

Please forgive me Rooster. This is from my heart.
No problem Hoze. I do request you think twice next time before posting comments like that "bullet" one. That's overboard for this forum, IMO. And its OK to go back and edit it out of your post.

As far as a little name calling, it offends some, but rarely me. Hell, at my age, any attention, good or bad, is often appreciated.

BTW, before Vick was exposed and arrested, I always thought he was overrated and would never pull for him or the Eagles. But I do hope he now turns into an upstanding citizen and contributes more than football skills to society. He is being given a fantastic second chance.
Screw you rooster, I said I was sorry so don't preach to me. I felt sorry for your sad liberal ass but have to try and preach. You can take a flying suck at my conservative anal area. . So be it. said and done..
Atleast you and I know you are a weak man, so preach on trouser trout hunter maybe some day one of those prisoners will give you what you want. I am sorry I apoligized. I just did it because my mother told me never to pick on the sick and the weak. You are both.

Hmmm,

Just like Vick, an apology because he thought he ought to, not because he meant it.

Thanks for illustrating the point.

And now you can tell me again how everyone from New Jersey sucks. It shakes me to my core.
