Let me preface by, I heard this somewhere. If it's one of those sayings like: Your face will stay that way! Or: You'll go blind! Just let me know.
You can get 24 hours of sleep, but if you never enter REM, you will not get the needed rest your brain needs. If that's the case, that is truly my issue. I tend to have most of my events in third stage that would kick me back up to wake, first, or second. In my 6.5 hour sleep study I accomplished 0 minutes of REM without CPAP. With CPAP until they got the pressure right, I only experienced 30 minutes of REM. So in an eight our sleep session, you might not be entering REM. I'm not sure if these machines can even measure that, but I bet that's where your problem lies.
