Last week:
Orininal install stopped after install screen. (Tried to install into slightly different directory names to fit my data structure)
Reboot & reran install. Program worked but card reader support not installed.
Installed card reader....saw data but had ongoing error message about finding database.
Unistalled program & MS SQL server via Add & Remove. Still receiving error messages so deleted directories.
Did a system restore.
Tried to install into slightly different directory names to fit my data structure How is you data struture different? What did you do?

saw data but had ongoing error message about finding database. I don't understand this - what do you mean by "saw data"? Which program let you see the data, and which gave the error message about the database?

Still receiving error messages After uninstalling???? so deleted directories - which?

[Edited out question and comment, based on the correction by wulfman in the following post]

There are three parts to the story:
* The computer's operating system handling the card reader, which is a piece of hardware like any other.
* Encore Pro reading, the data from the card and interpreting and presenting the data from the card it to you. Encore Pro needs MSSQL for that. It reads the data, puts it into a MSSQL database, and creates reports for you.
* Derek's "My Encore" going to the data already in the database, and presenting it to you in a very informative way.

If you could answer the questions, it might be easier to figure out what went wrong.

Bear in mind though that I've never installed Encore Pro, I just know computers.

O.

O and Sue,

It's imperative that the Encore Pro be installed before the card reader drivers.
And, the card reader is not to be plugged in until the drivers are installed. Then, when you plug in the card reader, it will find it and finish the installation.

Sue,
Don't give up!

I have checked my machine and here are the differences I find with yiour description:
1) (obvious) There are a whole bunch of files under C:\Program Files\Respironics\Encore Pro. It looks like you got stuck on the install before Encore Pro was actually installed.
2) Under C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server I do not have any reference to MSSQL$MICROSOFTBCM. The only subdirectories are 80 and MSSQL. Are you using any other software that uses MSSQL Server?

Your error message was:
"SQL Server could not find the specified named instance (MICROSOFTBCM) - please specify the name of an existing instance on the invocation the sqlservr.exe.
If you believe that your installation is corrupt or has been tampered with, uninstall the re-run setup to correct this problem."
I did a Google search on MICROSOFTBCM (Microsoft Business Contact Manager). I found the following on the web:
You must have installed the Business Contact Manager for Outlook as part of
your install (It appears to be so because of the MSSQL$MicrosoftBCM)
references in the Event Viewer). That Add On program uses SQL Server,
which is a powerfull database program to manage the data related to Business
Contacts. That is the only reason SQLServr would be running. Otherwise it
is not a part of the default install of Office 2003.

You don't state what the warnings or errors are related to the
MSSQL$MicrosoftBCM instance that is running on your system. If you could
note those, then possibly you'd receive more clear answers to resolving the
problem. Normally SQL Server will not cause in and of itself any stability
problems that I'm aware of related to overall systems. However, if you are
receiving warnings then you should look into those.

If you uninstall the Business Contact Manager, it will uninstall the SQL
Service and Outlook will operate without that service running.
Is this the case for you? In another thread I foubd that MicrosoftBCM warnings/errors are usually associated with File/Printer sharing not being enabled (not the case for you).

Hers's what I think I would do.
1) Uninstall MSQLServer, and if you can MSSQL$MicrosoftBCM. Make sure they don't appear as Services.
2) Simply delete the C:\Program Files\Respironics directory (folder) since you cannot uninstall.
3) If you feel comfortable, use regedit to delete the entry (if it is there)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Respironics
and possibly
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Microsoft -> Microsoft SQL Server
and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Microsoft -> Microsoft SQL Server Setup.
(Please note that I am hesitant to suggest that you use regedit to modify the registry unless you know what you are doing!)
4) Try a clean install using the default directories.

I'm wondering if you had a version of MSSQL Server already installed that is incompatible with Encore Pro? Before you go uninstalling the BCM make sure you will not mess up any of your other software.

Let me know what you think,

Derek

Derek,

Could the ".NET" software (or lack thereof) be an issue in some of these installation problems? If I remember correctly, it needs to be installed for your MyEncore to work. Is that correct?
Also, I've seen it mentioned in some threads that the printer and file sharing needed to be turned on.....I DON'T have it turned on in my computer and everything's working just fine.

Den,

The .NET Framework should not affect Encore Pro in any way, as it does not use it. It is the basis for MyEncore, but that is a completely separate issue.

The File/Printer sharing is an issue with Windows XP. I don't believe it affects earlier Windows versions. I don't know what you are running.

Quick reply as I'm on my way to Thyroid Biopsy

1. My Encore never installed. (yet)
2. I won't install card reader until after Encore works.
3. I can't really remember the exact error message I was receiving when I did have Encore working that made me uninstall. I think it was an error every thing I booted asking for location od MSS database. (This was the only install I told data to use "c:\data\.." instead of default).
4. I did recently update my windows and did recently receive the outlook contact manager Derek mentions.
5. I can not use ADD & REMOVE to uninstall MSSQL as it's not there (But the files are in my directory.)
6. I have tried to delete the MS Server directories and they are full of protected files. I have to remove them 1 by1. I will do that again.
7. I do have the "net framework" updates. My updates are all up to date.

Last night, I removed all background programs and all files labels "Encore.."and the Resp... data directory and tried another clean install. Encore does not install....it sticks after it looks for data directory
I have used system restore to remove the ongoing error message I stated in my install notes.

PLAN of ACTION:
1. I will REMOVE the Outlook contact manager.
2. I will again remove the files in the MS Server directory.
3. I will edit the registry.....I will made a copy 1st. I have done this before.
4. I will do a clean install using default directories (Which I have been doing since after the 1st install [that almost worked]).

I Thank YOU ALL for you HELP...........I'll be back tonight.
Sincerely, Susan

It WORKS NOW!

I did all the steps in my prior plan of action....including a comprehensive registry search for MS SQL SERVER.

I believe it was the "Business Contacts for Outlook" that caused the conflict with Encore. The uninstall for that was messy also but worked.

If Derek hadn't noticed that the error code for MSSQL server was abnormal and discovered that it was for another program that also used the same database (that's what was in that 3rd directory under C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL$MICROSOFTBCM) I would still be lost.

It's too bad Respironics doesn't have any of this information at least listed on the web. Apparently there will be conflicts arising with other programs as they are developed.

Now I'm ready to load MYENCORE.

Thanks so much to all who had suggestions.

Susan

Susan,

I'm so glad you got it running. Now have "fun" looking at your data every day . But what a relief it must be.
