Is it me or Resmed???

Post by carbonman » Wed Aug 05, 2009 6:50 am

1mth on the S8 Autoset II.
Recorded the best numbers yet....A .2, H 1.7....
95th leak...0, time in apnea....0.
11.6cm(H2O implied)
thats before dividing by 2.

Can the algorithm for this machine be that different?....
or does it just fit me better than the Mseries does???

It takes but a few minutes and I am in sync w/the
machine and I can't hardly tell I have a mask on.
Whatever it is, I'm lov'n this machine.

Bottom line, best night of sleep I have had.
It is not my imagination.
Since I started using this machine, I am experiencing
a marked improvement in my sleep and how I feel.

Thoughts/comments/suggestions

When I first joined this forum there were many lively discussions about which APAP algorithm was best.

What I took from all of those discussions was that everyone is different and some do better with one and others do better with another and still some do well with either ... I think I was in the latter group based on my experiences.

Glad you were able to trial both and find what works best for you ... everyone should be so lucky to have such an opportunity as we have had.

Where are you getting all those stats?
What kind of machine is this?

My experience with my AutoSet II has been very similar..in comparison to an experience with another machine in the past. Found my AutoSet II to be easily to adjust to. Just assisted a family member to get set up with a ResMed Autoset II witnessing adjustment and effectiveness to soar............

........don't think it is just you.

I'm not well versed on the algorythms, although I understand the basics, however, I wouldn't trade my S8 Autsoet II for anything. Once I had the pressure set to the appropriate starting level and the mask sealing well, I not only felt great most mornings when I woke up, but my numbers were terrific, too.

I had the M Series first (although, admittedly it was straight CPAP) and when I switched to the Resmed S8 Autoset II, it made a world of difference.

The bottom line, though, is different strokes for different folks!

That's great news CarbonMan! Even your Avatar is clearer! As many of you already know, the M-Series has been a godsend for both myself and my mother. When I tried a Intellipap machine, the algorithm must not have fit me as well, and although my numbers looked good, I declined. Just as sleep apnea symptoms present in a variety of nightly events and patterns in different individuals, different machine algorithms (in auto machines) appear to have an individual fit as well. Good to hear you got a new machine and that it fits you well.

Hi, Vines,

The Resmed S8 Elite w/EPR, Resmed S8 Elite II w/EPR, Resmed S8 AutoSet Vantage and Resmed S8 AutoSet II w/EPR are two fully data capable CPAPs and two fully data capable APAPs w/easy access to and the most available data via the LCD screen.

Carbonman is using the Resmed S8 AutoSet II w/EPR and the data he posted is all available via the LCD screen - except the "time spent in apnea". That data tells me he has the ResScan 3.5 or better software, quite likely ResScan 3.7.

Couldn't agree more! Roberto (DreamStalker) sums it up perfectly:

Happy to hear you found what works best for you, carbonman! Great new avatar picture, btw.

Congratulations Carbonman,
Way to go Carbonman! Beautifully expressed post.
As I read it, I could feel your spirit soaring with power.
It was though you were one with your ResMed.

Congrats on those numbers, Carbonman! Does this mean you're using the Autoset in CPAP mode?

Unfortunately, my AutoSet II is not doing the same for me. Right now thought, I'm trying to deal with leaks.

Carbon, maybe I should dust off my 5200.

Get the leaks under control and it'll probably help a lot.

Yep, my numbers are getting better. I was getting an AHI as high as 14.4 with an AI of 4.0, and the last two nights I've had AHIs of 5.0 and 5.1 respectively. AIs have been 0.7 and 0.5. After I tape, I now try to blow air out of my mouth to make sure I can't puff air through the tape, and I tightened my mask. I also turned off Smartstart, so I get more accurate max leak readings. My forehead is a bit less comfortable, but I feel better in the mornings.

Hang in there, jdm!
