ResMed AutoSet II vs AutoSet Vantage Comparison

Post by Muse-Inc » Mon Jul 27, 2009 8:58 pm

I want an APAP and like ResMed machines. Question for users of these machines: what are the pros and cons between these 2. Thanks all!

They are very similar. The AutoSet adds the EasyBreathe motor to the Vantage. EasyBreathe makes the system quieter and breathing "more natural." I find my AutoSet II so comfortable I have never even tried EPR. Since EasyBreath is built into the motor design, it cannot be turned off.

The Autoset II is better. But, the Vantage II is still OK.

If I had a choice I'd opt for the II model becauseas quiet as my Vantage is, the II is whisper quiet plus has the enhanced sharkfin waveform which allows the EasyBreathe technology to really deliver a better experience (it better mimics the way a normal person breathes whereas before it, the machine tended to deliver a squarish waveform.

Respironics seek to achieve a similar effect with A-Flex but it isn't quite as effective as the Resmed II models due to the fancier blower the Resmed uses.

The motor in the II models is derived from the revolutionary blower Resmed put in the Vpap AdaptSV. It is so quiet my wife used to ask if I had it turned on at all.

There is then the matter of the improved H/H (the 4i) that now comes with a II model. It isn't any dramatic improvement but was in response to lots of requests for bigger water capacity & better heat control.

Doesn't the H4i work with all S8s, not just the II models?

Yes it does, but I doubt many will buy a new H/H just for the limited improvements it offers. Anyone who buys a Vantage is likely getting an older machine with the older H/H. The Vantage is not a current model even if Resmed still lists it on their website. The Autoset II is the current one. But, I am sure there are still stocks of Vantage models being sold off.

cpap.com has new Vantages for sale. For $190 less than the AutoSet II.

I'm guessing that is what prompted the thread.

I have both. AutoSet II is much better. Quieter and better breathing algorithm. Gave the Vantage to the wife.

The only advantage I'm aware of for the S8-Vantage over the Auto-S8-II is that while either will run on ResMed's current ResScan software, the Vantage will also run on ResMed's discontinued AutoScan software.

The benefit is that the AutoScan v5.7 software has important functionality (in particular, detail data export to Excel) which ResScan lacks. But that's moot since AutoScan is now difficult to get hold of. For that matter, ResScan also is difficult (though apparently not impossible) to obtain.

Apart from this one twist, the newer S8-II should in all other respects be a better machine.

Thanks all! I was leaning that way anyway 'cause the Vantage doesn't have the Easy Breathe technology. I breathed so much easier on the Vantage I was loaned as my 95thcentile pressures varied 6.9 -10.2 meaning it wasn't a constant (higher) pressure to exhale against which is still sometimes very distressing. The Easy Breathe and certainly the EPR setting should eliminate that annoyance. Being quieter is always a plus; the Vantage seemed noisier than my Escape but that might be 'cause the sound varied between inhale and exhale. After day 4 of sleeping with the Hybrid, I'm very aware of the sound of the air venting...not loud just a white noise sorta sound.

Hafta admit I'm acutely aware of these subtle physical sensations...so don't y'all guage your perceptions of these against mine...my family has joked since I learned to read that I'm just like the princess in the "The Princess and the Pea" kid's story

And I thought that was because of your many pre-CPAP nocturnal bathroom trips.

Yeah, that too! I might hold the woman's record for the number of trips per night to pee (where's my gold medal...oh, yeah, it got flushed)! Whadda relief they disappeared the first night as a hosehead
