BillMyInsurance.com ROCKS

Post by Janelle » Fri Aug 26, 2005 5:36 pm

Just used BillMyInsurance.com and was extremely pleased. The day before I filled out their form I had called my insurance and then my DME and asked if they could get me a letter of Medical Necessity for TWO masks, since insurance said there was no time period, only whatever the doctor, and whenever the doctor thought it was medically necessary. Of course, as usual, no RT was in and the receptionist said she would see what she had to do. That was two weeks ago. She called back yesterday and told me she had the needed Letter.

Meanwhile during the two weeks, this is what happened. I filled out the form on the internet. Bonnie at BMI (short for BillMy Insurance.com) requested me to fax copies of my insurance cards, which I scanned the front on one page and the back on another and faxed from home. Within days I got news I was approved, they had the Letter of Medical Necessity from the Doctor and wanted to know what kind of masks I wanted. I requested the Comfort Curve with sensor tube and the Activa, discussing the advisability of getting the Standard which the CPAP.com mask chart said I should get versus the Shallow which is what Rested Gal often advises. I got the Standard.

I think the total time from filling out the form, faxing the insurance card front and back was about a week. Within like 10 days from start, I had my two brand new masks. No fuss, no bother, and I've already worn the Activa for three nights now. With my DME I'd still be waiting, I'm sure, since they would probably have to order at least one of them, then I'd have to drive 45 minutes into town and 45 back, at 2.50 a gallon and probably twice not just once. Instead, I just sat at my computer getting updates about every day to every other day in the coolness of my house and just waited.

Also received a copy of the "statement" sent to the insurance giving codes, the normal contractual price (BillMyInsurance is an in-network provider for nearly all insurance companies) and those wonderful codes.

I'll definitely use them again.

Lets see...I just waited for a call from my DME for 2 weeks for a 420E and an Activa("should only take a day or two for the Activa and 1-2 weeks for the 420E"), spent all morning trying to connect with a live person at the DME today. "Machine came in yesterday, mask is still coming" And they wanted to put me off another week to GIVE me the machine, but I finally talked them into giving it today. Another hour at that DME for them to figure out how to get the machine out of french and set my pressure. (didn't even set the clock). The receipt I signed was for $2000 to be billed to the insurance for JUST the PB420E and humidifier, and I will have to pay 10% of that BILLING price. They spent about 5-10 minutes with me, but didn't really know how the machine worked. To their credit (and mine for negotiations) they did finally give me the clinician's manual.

Still no Activa....

So you are doing pretty good, it seems, with this new approach.

I've heard that those local DMEs just love to "WOW" their patients with this kind of great service.
Sincerely,

Price gouging and louzy service, such an American institution.

I will never, never, never use one again. They are nothing but rip off artists. Unbelievable that insurance companies buy their speel.

Snork, do NOT pay 10% of the BILLABLE price. That is not how their contract with your insurance reads. You pay 10% of the negotiated price. When you get your EOB from your insurance company it will say how much you are responsible for. You make a copy of that, circle the amount in highlighter, red preferably, and mail it in with that amount. They are trying to gouge you! If they argue with you and want the money when the equipment is delivered tell them you want to see a copy of their contract with your insurance company to see what it says on how much you owe, and you want your equipment now and will pay when you get the EOB from your insurance company. They also get a copy of the EOB but they usually throw them away.

OR, you can call your insurance company and ask if it legal for the DME to charge you 10% of the negotiated price or the billed price.

Or do like I did and after you have it and it is now used, tell them you are not going to pay anything as you know how much they ripped off the insurance company and if they are not happy with that, come get it. They will not want it back and will let you off with paying nothing. They will argue but you will win, Damn theives
