Nasonex and nasal irrigation

Post by Yoda » Sat Jul 18, 2009 9:31 pm

Hi,
I know a lot of you use these products to help clear out the nasal passages. How soon after the nasal irrigation should I use the Nasonex? Do you use the Nasonex right after the irrigation or at different times of the day. I should have asked the doctor, but I did not. She said to use both, but I did not get enough details. (I always have a question or two right after I leave )

Thank you!

Nasal irrigation at least several hrs before sleep(typically in the morning or afternoon when I'm really congested). I use the Grossan gadget and solution. His book and website say that the saline+ solution is intended to be held in the sinuses for at least 20 mins (to fully dissolve-dislodge gunk) after which the cilia move it from the sinuses to drain down the throat...now I've had the unpleasant experience of bending my head and finding fluid gushing out (used to happen all the time when I swam laps) *gross*. So after 20 or so mins, I deliberately put my head down and turn from side to side so my sinuses drain. I forgot once and had it seeping out and given my head position at the time exiting via nostrils messing with my pillow seal *even grosser*.

I use Astepro (antihistamine nasal spray) around dinner time, then take a generic Claritin and use Nasonex spray about 15 mins before 'mask on'.

My doctor says I should irrigate first, at least 2 to 3 hours before sleeping. I irrigate at 7PM, then Nasonex at 9PM, then Ayr gel right before bed.
This does the trick!

If I recall, it says not to blow your nose for 15 min after using Nasonex. I use my Nasonex in the morning and irrigate in the evening. I'd say give it at least an hour if you are going to irrigate first.

I do the Nasal Irrigation in the Mornings when I get up and again aout two Hrs before bed and I have used the Nasacort Nasal Spray some in the past when I was really congested but I try to stay away from Nasal Sprays if at all Possible. Now, I just do the Nasal Irrigation twice Daily and use Simply Saline right before bed and I run my HH on a setting of 2.
