My new distiller will do 4 liters. The gallon container for my old distiller (which I use with the new one) isn't quite big enough so I have to remember to pour some out into something else early in the cycle.

To me liters, kilometers, and grams all make better sense than what we have. I was in ACE hardware yesterday morning and some man wanted 70 inches of some thick wire braid but he had absolutely no idea how many feet to get. seriously - he didn't have any idea - both the clerk and I said 6 ft but still that didn't make sense to him - all he knew was 70 inches.

To me, the best example of the "English" system is to ask how many cubic inches are in a gallon. No one has a clue. (It's 231.)

But since a cubic centimeter = a milliliter, in metrics cubic and volumetric volume are the same. There are 1000 cc in a liter.

But the same guy who can't convert inches to feet will fight like hell to not have to learn metrics.

I just know it is about 7 1/2 gallons in a cubic foot. Now when you look at those gallon water or milk jugs, you say to yourself - NO WAY.

Yup. 7.48 according to Google.

Now go figure what that cubic foot of water weighs.

well there are 8 lbs in a gallon so you can do the math - it is way over my head --- well not really but ----------- I had plenty of math illiterate students in my time including some of the math majors in my courses -

from an old post of mine -

We have this cube paperweight - these are on it

Metric Maxims

"The meter measures 3 foot 3 - it's longer than a yard you see.

A miss is as good at 1.6 kilometers

A pint is a pound the world around but a liter is a kilogram when you are in a metric jam.

I love you 35.2 liters and 8.8 liters.

First down and 9.1 meters to go.

Every 2.5 centimeters a king.

28.3 grams of prevention are worth .453 kilograms of cure.

Give him 2.5 centimeters and he will take 1609 meters.

More bounce to the 28.3 grams.

He demanded his .453 kilograms of flesh.

155 centimeters, eyes of blue ........

What about "2.54 centimeter worm, 2.54 centimeter worm, measuring the marigolds..."

Yup, basic math problem.
Two liters per day is what you want (half gallon).

Too much water can lead to hyponatremia (low salt).
Basically screwing up your electrolytes.

Also, another great way to detoxify is to "ALKALIZE." Many toxins are acidic, and so one way to
counteract their harmful effects is to neutralize them through alkalizing. There are two very simple ways
to help with this. The first easy way to alkalize is to squeeze the
juice from a piece of fresh lemon into the water
you drink, as often as you can. When you go out
to a restaurant, always ask the waiter to bring you
a big glass of water with a slice of lemon in it. Oh,
and request "no ice"; that way you can drink it
down right away before you eat, while you're
looking at the menu and selecting your order.
Also, I recommend that you start out each
morning with a very tall cup of water and the
juice from a slice of fresh‐squeezed organic lemon
in it. That's what I do every morning and it's a great way to start out the day.
Somebody educate me on chemistry. I thought lemons were acidic. How can they alkalize anything?

P.S. "The second way is to drink grass juice." Yechhh.
My bunk-detector bells are going off...

Yah, that's what I would think too. Granted I'm not a chemist, but I'd need a pretty good explanation as to why this would be true (e.g. what those intermediate reactions are) before I'd believe it.

Sounds too much like the homeopathy nonsense to me ...

I used to take a very large bottle of water, drink a little then stick it in the freezer until partially frozen. Then I would take cut up lemons or lemons and limes and push them into the bottle, squeezing a bit as I did. Very refreshing. Now I always get lemon with my salad and after squezing it on the salad, add it to my Diet Coke.

Might be careful how often you drink this; the acid in lemon juice softens tooth enamel. Last thing I read about acids in foods was that for about 30 minutes following eating, tooth enamel is slightly softened. Now it didn't say precisely how this was bad, just that one should be careful (of what it did not state) of creating an acidic environment in the mouth too often during the day. Might check it out with your dentist.

Personally, I like lime in my water (one of the most acidic things we consume) but only consume with a meal; it's water the rest of the time for me.

Remember basic cell biology? The citric acid cycle in the mitochondria metabolize protein, carbs and fat into carbon dioxide and water to generate energy. Instead of using fad treatments to overcome supposed bug-a-boos, just eat a healthy diet and mamma nature will take care of the rest. Oh, and generous portions of aerobic and anerobic exercise help too.

jdm2857 wrote:And now on to the vinegars.

All vinegars contain acetic acid. The difference is in the flavor components. Similar to the way all wines contain ethanol.

So why some are considered acid and others alkali is just baffling. Acetic acid is acetic acid.

Chemistry class dismissed.
From http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/alkaline-water/an01800 :
Alkaline water: Does it have health benefits? There seems to be a lot of hype about alkaline water filters. Is alkaline water better for you than regular water?
Answer
from Katherine Zeratsky, R.D., L.D.
Alkaline water has a higher pH level than normal tap water. Some proponents say that alkaline water can neutralize acid in your bloodstream, boost your energy level and metabolism, and help your body absorb nutrients more effectively. Others say that alkaline water can help you resist disease and slow the aging process. However, there's no scientific proof that any of these claims are true. For most people, plain water is best.
Did someone just dream this crap up about alkalizing your body? Is there a way they are making money from it?

Some days I think our society is no smarter than superstitious, isolated natives in a jungle centuries ago.

Anytime I eat and cannot brush and floss immediately, I chew a stick of gum sweetened with Xylitol. The saliva produced will neutralize the food acids quickly and there is some help from Xylitol. If no one is looking, as soon as I think the acid is neutralized, I will use one of the Stimu-U-Dents, http://www.amazon.com/Johnson-Stim-U-De ... 026&sr=8-1, I carry around.

Cool...I do this too! I like the GUM picks (white stems, light green ends) for in-between teeth, work great for cleaning and stimulating. I figure my teeth and gums need all the help I can give them re saliva-dry mouth issues that come with xPAP therapy.
