One kudos for the 'A' DME

Post by lktnky » Fri Jul 10, 2009 2:43 pm

You know that DME we love to trash? Well, I believe in giving credit when credit is due, so here's my short story.

I'd asked to have an Aura Headrest mask sent to my house in early June. The mask I got was not what I ordered. It was promptly picked up.

While making arrangements to have it picked up I again asked about the Aura. "Isn't available, although we do special order from them" and "don't think I can get one, but I'll try" from the 1-800 number national ordering center. 'Hector' also said it might take up to 2 months. OK-not great but not "won't happen."

UPS knocks on my door this afternoon to announce a delivery. Lo and behold, A BOX.
Open it up and voila!
I got a Headrest and I've got a great feeling about this mask.
Wish me luck!
Sleep well, fellow Hoseheads.

All the best,
LKTNKY

So, A***A now rates a "kudo" for only taking two attempts to get you the mask you requested?

The "kudo" threshold has sunk to a new low.

I think that qualifies as a at-least-you-actually-got-the-damned-thing-kudo

Nice going in any case. I'll be interested in how well you like it. BTW, kudos is the singular.

From meriam-webster.com:

Main Entry:
ku·do Listen to the pronunciation of kudo
Pronunciation:
\ˈkü-(ˌ)dō, ˈkyü-\
Function:
noun
Inflected Form(s):
plural kudos Listen to the pronunciation of kudos \-(ˌ)dōz\
Etymology:
back-formation from kudos (taken as a plural)
Date:
1926

1 : award, honor <a score of honorary degrees and…other kudos — Time> 2 : compliment, praise <rarely hear that kind of kudo to men anymore — Ellen Goodman>
usage Some commentators hold that since kudos is a singular word it cannot be used as a plural and that the word kudo is impossible. But kudo does exist; it is simply one of the most recent words created by back-formation from another word misunderstood as a plural. Kudos was introduced into English in the 19th century; it was used in contexts where a reader unfamiliar with Greek could not be sure whether it was singular or plural. By the 1920s it began to appear as a plural, and about 25 years later kudo began to appear. It may have begun as a misunderstanding, but then so did cherry and pea.
