Not sure what happened...

Post by LaurieJ31981 » Thu Jul 09, 2009 5:01 am

I got my Mirage Quattro full face mask last night... I tried it out... and this was my results... Leak 0.00 l/s AHI- 41.5... AI- 13.3 and HI- 28.2.

With the nasal mask.... My AHI has not been above 9.0 and lowest has been 4.0.

Now I feel like I am back at square one again... I liked the feel of the full face mask, because I was tired of taping my mouth with the nasal one. But apparently I may have to keep using the nasal one.

Just wanted someones thoughts, maybe someone else has experienced this when switching from a nasal to a full face?

Did you reset the Mask setting in the clinical menu for the new mask? ResMed machines subtract the intentional leak from the total leak and display only the excess leak. Since FF masks typically have more intentional leak than nasal masks, that may be throwing your leak numbers off.

WHat was the leak for the nasal mask? If the leak with that was high, your AHI numbers may not have been accurate.

If you do not know how to get to the Clinical Menu, let us know.

I did change the mask type to Mirage FF...

My leak for the Nasal one ranged anywhere between 0.00 l/s and 0.12 l/s

The strange thing about my numbers being so high today, I wasn't tired. I was actually yawning less then normal. So I am definitely confused as to what is going on.

I think I am going to go back to the nasal one tonight, I don't like the idea of having more then 1 apnea an hour.

I went back to the Nasal mask last night, and my AHI was still high but not as high as it was with the FF mask.. it was around 11.7, that was mostly hypopneas... I even taped my mouth so I am not sure why I just can't get the AHI lower... I'm not tired, so I know it's not affecting me that way. I haven't dosed off at work in 4 weeks! Love it lol... I tried to slowly raise my pressure to 10.2 and my AHI kind of creeped back up in numbers...

I had my sleep study on May 21st 09... Got my machine 5 weeks ago... and just Wed the Dr calls me and says "I just got you sleep study results, you have severe sleep apnea, and had a big improvement with the CPAP, I haven't heard from you and I like to see my patients within 4 weeks... I hope you have the CPAP, and am looking forward to seeing you"

Ok... first of all, I called to make an appt and the secretary said she was all booked up then on vacation and didn't have an opening until July 29th. Don't you think she would check her schedule and see if I am on it? trust me I have been on my own with this, and definitely want to see her... I am hoping when I call Monday she can get me in sooner...

Anyway... I am sure i'll get below 5.0 sometime or another. Maybe I need a different machine? APAP BiPap? I have no idea... I just know, I would like to be low in my numbers.
