Need help selecting the right machine...
Need help selecting the right machine...
I have been diagnosed with central apnea and have been given a prescription requiring a BiPap machine with Back-up Rate. I believe he is referring to an ST machine with a time setting to force inhalation during the central apnea event.
I do not find a machine with the terminology for back-up rate but several that are timed.
The one machine I am most interested in is a ResMed machine - S8 VPAP Auto 25 BiLevel Machine https://www.cpap.com/cpap-machine/resme ... #topxbrand. The web site details do not say it is timed yet the description seems to indicate that it is timed.
Is this in fact an ST machine?
Has anyone any first hand experience with this machine?
Your helpful advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: Need help selecting the right machine...
you might want to call your local DME or call cpap.com and ask them your question
if you need an S/T machine that one you are looking at is probably not going to work

Re: Need help selecting the right machine...
I live overseas so not much help locally and US toll free doesn't work for me.

Re: Need help selecting the right machine...
then you might want to change the subject of your post --- asking specifically "what machine works for BiPap with Back-up Rate" - that way you will get those few members of the forum who might know to read the post - most ppl here don't know what is needed
if you click on the edit for your first post in this thread I believe you can change the subject there - if not then start a new thread

Re: Need help selecting the right machine...
If I correctly understand you, you are looking at the absolute top of the line, and most expensive of the xPAP line.

If it's BiLevel with a backup rate that your doctor wants you on, then select any BiLevel machine that has the "S/T" or "ST" suffix. The S8 VPAP Auto 25 you linked to above does not provide a backup rate----only "S" mode (spontaneous mode).rklesc wrote:I have been diagnosed with central apnea and have been given a prescription requiring a BiPap machine with Back-up Rate. If you give us more details of how the prescription was written or specifically which settings your doctor intends, then we can see whether you need one of the more expensive servo-ventilation or volume-assurance type BiLevel models. Otherwise pick a BiLevel machine having an "ST" or "S/T" suffix in the model name.
Good luck!

Re: Need help selecting the right machine...
You are right, rklesc, about "timed" being the terminology used with machines that offer a "back up rate."rklesc wrote:I have been diagnosed with central apnea and have been given a prescription requiring a BiPap machine with Back-up Rate. -SWS is guiding you right. Bilevel machines that have the letters "S/T" or "ST" at the end of their name are the ones that are capable of being set for a "timed backup rate." Timed rate, pertaining to "bpm" (breaths per minute.)
No, the VPAP Auto 25 is not an ST machine. It does not have timed backup rate capability. In the description of the VPAP Auto 25 machine, perhaps the "Ti" mentioned in the description sounded like something to do with "timed back up rate", but that isn't what "TiControl" means.rklesc wrote:The one machine I am most interested in is a ResMed machine - S8 VPAP Auto 25 BiLevel Machine https://www.cpap.com/cpap-machine/resme ... #topxbrand. The VPAP ST does have timed backup rate capability.

Re: Need help selecting the right machine...
I initially told Rested Gal that I didn't think the VPAP ST model offered Auto mode. But I was wrong.rklesc wrote:The one machine I am most interested in is a ResMed machine - S8 VPAP Auto 25 BiLevel Machine https://www.cpap.com/cpap-machine/resme ... #topxbrand. You can see from that nice chart Rested Gal provided above, that the VPAP ST does everything the VPAP Auto 25 does---including auto BiLevel mode. Additionally that VPAP ST model offers a backup rate or "S/T" mode that your doctor prescribed.
Thanks for that chart, Rested Gal!

Re: Need help selecting the right machine...
Thanks to everyone for the kind assistance. The product description for the ResMed VPAP ST looks terrific but cannot find it on cpap.com. I did find something that will work for me - Sandman Duo ST BiLevel CPAP Machine here - https://www.cpap.com/productpage-bundle ... e-1.4.html.
Again, thanks for the feedback and sleep tight... Lord knows I need too!! Wish I could have discovered this 30 or 40 years ago... but then no one made them back then
