Biofeedback for nasal congestion

Post by garyland » Thu Jul 02, 2009 12:23 am

Since my nasal congestion is just inflammation of the turbinates that comes and goes many times throughout the day and night, I was thinking that biofeedback or hypnosis may help. What do you think?

It will - however you have to do it often often often during the day. You also have to really practice it and get really good at it.
Learning it will benefit all of your health but like I said it means having the time to dedicate to it.
A lot of its success depends on your ability to interact with your autonomic system. Some people can some can't easily. It also depends on the kind of work you do daily.
When I was doing massage I could do my routines between clients or even as I was working on them. As a programmer - not so much. Plus the whole enviroment right now is not suitable or accepting of someone sitting around with their eyes closed.

Blackspinner, where do you go to learn such techniques? I'm intrigued.

Thanks!
B.

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

where do you go to learn such techniques?
First you have to learn a relaxation technique that works for you such as autogenics.

Then you need to learn something usually referred to as creative visualization or you have to find someone with a bio feedback lab.
Are you talking about hypnosis or biofeedback?
When you do it yourself it is both. You need to learn how to induce a self hypnotic state in order to use biofeedback techniques really well.

Just someone using hypnosis on you isn't enough to make it work.

That is the western medical model.

You can also go the spiritual/ new age / eastern route.
Learn meditation and shamanic journey techniques and acupressure.
This can be harder or easier depending on your life choices with respect to religion.

A lot of it depends on what you believe in.

Using a computer model... You need to learn to access your operating system and it doesn't speak english. For some people this is easier using a religious metaphore for others they need to see the needle on a guage move. But regardless you need to get out of your here and now head space - the vast majority of people cannot look in the mirror and say "sinuses deflate now" or "Blood pressure commence at 115/75 in 3 seconds"
