Hi thanks for the quick response. I know all about Dr Park and his website, that's how I realized I have UARS also. He was on my short list even though he's out of network. The doctor sounds brilliant and I'll pay the 20% out of pocket. Keep us posted on how the UPPP is healing. They say the danger is with scar tissue that forms 8-12 months later and makes sleep apnea at times worse that before surgery. They say this is the worst pain but you say no? I had two hair transplants over 3500 holes punched in my head so I guess I can tolerate pain quite well . Also sitting in a chair for 12 hours over two days while they also inject your scalp with Novocaine all day
BTW I thought you lived in New York by your avatar. I friend of mine was one of the 343 bravest lost that day, that day was surreal I will never forget it The thought of all those 343 firemen running up those stairs while everyone else was running down....chilling!!

I hadn't heard about scar tissue 8 to 12 months post surgery. When I was at the doc this week I asked about a feeling I had in my throat that felt like a stitch was still in there. She said it could be possible but unlikely and looked. She told me that she could easily see my vocal cords and their was no stitch in my throat just some scar tissue causing that. I was in bad shape before and once I lose some more weight and get my nose fixed I may be off cpap for good. My doc said my throat is wide open now. My tonsils were bigger than golf balls and I mean each one was bigger than a golf ball not both combined.
I use that avatar on here and another site out of respect for those guys. I am a firemen myself and have met some of the survivors and been to classes with them and seminars they have given.

My doc was in network and I have insurance from my work and my wives work so I didn't pay a penny for any of the surgery or hospital bill or any of my cpap equipment or supplies. I guess I am lucky on that part. We have blue cross blue shield of Illinois and the doc and hospital were both in network. The hospital is one of the best I have ever seen or been to, and I have been to many of them over the course of my career.

Good luck

Gerry

Gerry,
What was amazing was when I went to Mike's memorial the week or two after 911 (They never found his body), there were firefighters paying respect from all over the world.
I had tears in my eyes when they all kissed and hugged his poor mother.... ..how sad but also inspiring!!!!

Good Luck keep us posted

Ok, I am posting an update here for those who are considering this surgery or it was suggested to them. I had a deviated septum fixed the following year.

I have done extremely well and the surgery has improved my life a lot. My sleep apnea has improved greatly, almost to the point my Dr was going to take me off cpap. I had lost weight but put on more weight and recently started to exercise again. I became more dependant on cpap with the weight gain but and didn't realize that my cpap was not working properly. Things were going so good that it never crossed my mind to have my cpap checked, then one day the light bulb went on and I took it in to get it checked. To make a long story short, the old machine was not working properly. The data from the two machines is now being looked at by the manufacturers Engineers as they said what was happening should not happen.

I am now back to feeling rested and exercising almost every day. I say almost because I have over done it some days and been told to rest and not exercise the next day if I do that.

With these surgeries, my allergies are not as bad as they used to be, my sleep apnea is greatly improved with the pressure requirements greatly reduced. I do not get sore throats hardly ever now do not feel like I am choking when eating at times.

This was a drastic surgery but if it is required, I would recommend it as long as you find the right doctor. My doc would not do surgery unless she felt she could guarantee improvement. That was the reason I agreed to the surgery.

I did read a lot about it and read what I could get my hands on by Dr Steven Parks.

If you are considering this surgery, do not jump into it. Do some research and if a doc isn't sure it will help don't do it. I do suggest you search for a doctor that specializes in this.

Joe have you been diagnosed with sleep apnea or had a sleep study? Are you on or tried cpap?
