1st night with Mirage Quattro FFM

Post by Jason S. » Wed Jun 24, 2009 5:58 am

Been on CPAP for 6 months and now entitled to a mask replacement (cost me $27 for new mask, headgear, hose and filter). The Mirage Quattro FFM is smaller and lighter than the Comfort Gel. I seemed to be able to fasten it tighter but with less pressure on the nose. Went through the night with no noticeable leaks and did not have to readjust the mask at all, even though I am a side sleeper who moves around. This morning awoke with no red mark on nose bridge, just faint lines on face which disappeared after shower. I had some aerophagia which for me is an indicator of good therapy. Bottom line is I feel this mask can be fitted tighter, but does NOT hurt the nose or leave marks. I am liking this new mask! Thanks to elader and others who recommended it.

You can actually get that mask to just float on your face. You'll be amazed at how lose you CAN get it. I sat at the edge of the bed and kept trying to get it as lose as I could and still not leak...it's PERFECT! The one thing I found out is that all my straps are NOT equal tension after I got done adjusting them. I laid down on the bed ( side sleeper too) and adjusted accordingly as I moved around. Faces just aren't symmetrical. Took awhile, but it worked. VERY comfortable mask. I found that pulling the mask a little further down on my nose worked better than letting it ride on the bridge...THAT helped A LOT!

I need a FF mask, & usually check out the threads that mention FF. Your favorable 1st night with the Quattro encourages me to try it. I have read several posts where the cpaper awakens with a red ridge on their nose.
If I understand you right, you didn't get "The Quattro Sore Nose" because you wore it looser.

Hope it works well for you.

Jan

Thanks. I wouldn't say I wore it loose. The straps felt tight on the back of my head, but the mask didn't hurt my face, didn't leave any marks. I was concerned when I went to bed, because I had nose bridge ulcers in the past (with Comfort Gel), but was pleasantly surprised when I awoke. There is a knob which tightens the upper part which I cranked all the way. One night is not enough to know how it will pan out, but so far I am pleased.

I've been using this mask for four months and never experienced any problems with soreness at the bridge of the nose. The adjustable dial allows the user to adjust the angle of the mask after it has been secured which should eliminate or significantly reduce issues of this nature for those that have encountered them with other products.

At my pressures, I have to tighten the mask to keep it from blowing off my face. I'd strongly recommend this mask.

I've been using Pad-a-cheek's Nose Bridge protector for over a year and been very happy with it. You might want to try it if you experience this problem.

Clarified a typo in my original post. The new mask does NOT hurt my nose bridge.

The only thing i don't like about he mask is that i cannot sleep on my back - shape of my face changes, mask leaks like crazy. But I am not really a back sleeper anyway. It really can be pretty loose and not leak.

Interesting elader, that's when my leak rates spike as well. I had been chalking the incidence of increased leakage when on my back to friction from the pillow lifting the back of the headgear thus loosening the seal. But you think its from the contours of your face shifting while on your back.

Somewhere in there is a joke about you looking better from behind but I don't know you well enough.

One thing about this mask (although it's the only one I have ever used so what do I know) is I have better luck if I wash the cushion gently every day with a mild soap and warm water, and also wash my face when I retire.

The thin membrane part of the cushion is more susceptible to leaks if it is not free of oils and dirt from just one night's use. Your mileage may vary....

As far as comfort, I have nothing to compare it to, but I don't get any red marks either.

Regards,
Stacy

I am jealous. I will have to try this mask in about 5 months. My nose looks VERY bad right now.
Realized I needed help when I woke up halfway in the wrong lane on the highway and saw oncoming traffic trying to dodge me. Fell asleep again in <2miles.

I didn't last 2 weeks on a Comfortgel nasal mask before the bridge of my nose was all torn up! My opinion is they should be called un-comfort gel.....but everyone is different and I'm sure they do a good job for someone! I love my nasal interface......I taped my mouth a little at first to train myself not to mouth breathe.

There is no excuse for your nose to have that blister you described in your other thread. Check with your DME, how long have you been using it? Most have a swap out within 30 day policy if it doesn't work. Find something that doesn't turn your nose into hamburger.
If nothing else, go try everyone the DME has till you find one that works, THEN buy it maybe even on cpapauction.

I just got through 6 months with the Comfort Gel. I had a very rough start (nose bridge ulcer). Try using a small fabric bandage or something to cushion it.

I've had my Quattro for 10 months and it took me about 3 months to figure out that I can loosten it up and it floats on my face. Its much different than my ComfortFull2 that I feel I have to attach to my face.
