Air flows too weak

Post by Darkegret » Mon Jun 08, 2009 9:49 pm

Hi everybody!!

I Have a Rem-Star Respironics cpap and its been a while now I dont get enough air from the unit even I have turned the pressure up to maximum of 20cm/h2o. I have full face mask I dont think its the air licking Problem. I also turned off the c-flex setting so it wouldn't weaken the air flow but there's till no help. I feel like it have turned into an autopap. could somebody please tell me what I can do to get the air more concentrate??

Hi Darkregret,

How old is the machine ? - if it is a few years old then there might be some issues.

1) Check the filter that it is not blocked as that will slowly cut off the airflow

2) If that isn't the problem, you will really need to look at getting it checked.

I hope it turns out to be simple.

Good luck

The weird things is that after a few seconds the air starts to weaken down and there is no air-forced against my exhale. I have been using the machine for a year now but the problem happened affer a few months I got it!!! How can i have it checked?? I dont live in the US!!!

One other consideration is that most of us after starting therapy, feel that the machine is not pumping air & on many occasions, I would put my fingers up to the air vents to check that air was blowing out.

Can you go back to where you bought it & ask them to do a simple pressure check.

I own a dial manometer I bought from cpap.com & can measure my machines pretty accurately. There are less expensive ones & there are also instructions on this website for how to build a simple one at home. (Use search & look for 'home manometer' or similar)

If you have gone into the menu system to raise the pressure, you may have set the machine to ramp which means that it starts the night at a reduced pressure setting. Many people report finding this is uncomfortable. If it is an auto machine there is a split night mode which begins the night with hours of no boost in pressure. Let us know the specific information regarding your equipment and the settings in the menu.

Good Luck,
TerryB

Hi.
I been a CPAP user since 2008. I recently notice that my airflow had diminished I was worried that maybe it was time for a replacement until I check my tubing. The elbow connector to my mask was loose allowing air to escape if there was any pressure against it from my pillow. I have several from previous frames and found some leaked and some didn't. I now have continuous airflow without any loss of pressure.

Does your machine report an AHI on the screen? What is the usual #?

And do you feel rested or not?

Those are important... whatever you think might or might not be wrong with the machine.

Sometimes people get used to the air flow and no longer 'hear' the sounds, but it doesn't mean they aren't being treated.

Yeah but resurrected today by PCPAP who probably didn't even notice the original post date.

Who was just trying to help.

How they find these old threads is beyond me...and why someone even goes looking in the first place even boggles my mind more.

Probably because they don't even read the posts, just hang another one on. Jim

To answer the question about “why people go searching for old threads in the first place”:
They don’t. They go searching for answers on the web and are directed to certain questions/answers like this one. They don’t know they’re visiting a decade old thread until they get here.
If answers left by someone ten years ago are helpful, what does it matter?
Why don’t site administrators remove threads that are more than 1 year old?
Maybe because it doesn’t matter how old a thread is if it still can help someone?
The real question here is, why do people care what other people do? If there was no internet, you’d be just as happy interfering in your friend’s lives so why not just do that?
