I have been using a CPAP for the past 4 years and just a few weeks ago had a septoplasty and turbinate reduction to fix a nose I broke about 20 years ago. The doc said both sides were severely blocked and that if I had the surgery and eventually get my tonsils out it may reduce my CPAP settings by 50%. I mention this only to show how bad the blockage was. After I recovered from the surgery and went back to using my CPAP I started waking up with really bad headaches. This went on for a full 7 days. I am wondering if anyone who has had a septoplasty has had this happen? I am thinking that maybe now because the blockage isn't as bad, the CPAP pressure is too high and is somehow causing the headaches. I am out of town for another two weeks so I can't see my doc until I get back. I have slept the past three night without the CPAP (making sure I stay on my side) and have awoken without headache. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks.
Derek
CPAP post septoplasty question
Re: CPAP post septoplasty question
It's quite possible that your pressure is too high. Whe the pressure is too high, it may induce apneas (not obstructive apnea, but apneas nonetheless) and those could make you desaturate -- and have headaches.
Many people have reported needing less pressure after having your kind of surgery.
