AutoSet spirit data questions

Post by Barb (Seattle) » Fri Aug 19, 2005 7:17 am

I am confused. My data from last night:

AHI 29.3 (?!!??)
HI 26.3
AI 3.0

leak 0.32

then, I THINK I figured out how to find the data so far this week? IF that's what It means, that they average this all out...

leak 0.24
AHI 15.7
HI 14.7
AI 1.0

even if that's the average, at a pressure of 12, why am I even having ANY apneas? I am tired, and still need naps, so I'm thinking this isn't working. The sleep study showed a pressure of 8...and the autopap showed 12 being around the right pressure. WHY the difference? What is going on?

Those are almost all hypopneas!

If the AutoSet algorithm didn't do all that well for your hypopneas your first time around... then why did your doc select an Autoset yet again???

Can you try a PB420 or Remstar Auto with C-Flex this time around instead of the same auto that didn't work first time around?

From your readings I do not understand why someone would suggest that you get another apap machine. When you say that it is set at 12 now, is the auto feature disabled and is the machine now operating as a straight cpap? If someone is going to just play around with the settings I cannot understand why they did not use 4-20 auto setting to cover all the bases. Do you have the AutoSpirit's clinical instructions on how to set the pressures yourself?.

I had the SAME results with my Spirit. HIs of 15-20 and felt like crap . Borrowed a 420E and feel great . Machines are different just as people are . Take a chance on a 420E . Besides . Its much smaller and software is cheaper.

Its not $800. Its about $450 . But if the Spirit doesn't work what is your choice. 1. Run the Spirit on straight cpap mode . 2. Buy another auto unit. 3. Keep using the spirit in auto and get lousey treatment and maybe have an accident .

But what the heck .

Barb (Seattle)...I use the same machine and I don't have high numbers like that. I started out on the auto and then went to straight 10 pressure and found I have better results. Those numbers seem kind of high.

Apnea Hypopnea, Its all the same if you aren't getting treatment. Stop concentrating on the data. HOW DO YOU FEEL ? LOUSY ! Its not working.

I had the SAME problem. Tried everything . Didn't want straight cpap . I bought a 420E . Feel wonderful.

These machines aren't the same. The algorethms are different . They're BIG secrets also. Why d d 1 work and not the other for me. I Don't know. As I said earlier. People are different.

My suggestion is. Sell the Spirit. Heck , Post it here. Johnny wont mind . I sold my Spirit here. There are people wanting autos. Ask for $500. A new 420 E is $524 . You will be out $24.

I don't like paying $3 agallon for gas but thats what it costs and I need it. Fretting will only cause more anxiety.

Sorry if I sound harsh . Not intended .

Just remembered, Be sure you take care of any sinus problems that you may have, mouth leaks also. Try tape. Its cheap and it works.

Cheers,

Barb, I have seen many posts about people using different machines and getting better results. One thing to remember is that your AutoSpirit does have value. You could auction it on Ebay, or try working a trade in Seattle. Do you know how to adjust your pressure settings? Have you tried using different settling settings? I would certainly want to try another machine to see if it is the machine that is the source of the problem, before I bought a new one.

Barb,

The one question: The sleep study showed a pressure of 8...and the autopap showed 12 being around the right pressure and then you said the setting are at 12 locked at 12? then you are not using the auto features. When the machine was at 8 or 8 to 16 how did you feel any difference? I feel that I am missing part of the story.
