FSA used to purchase battery backup

Post by nobody » Thu May 28, 2009 9:31 am

Hi, have any of you had any luck getting reimbursed from an FSA account for a battery back-up for your CPAP? Mine is giving me a hard time, but I think this (battery back-up) is allowed under IRS rules. Are there any particular strategies I could use to get the money? Any ideas welcomed, thanks.

I had no problems getting the money back. Mine was purchased at CPAP.com so it looked like medical equipment. They didn't even hesitate.

Most of the time they just need a letter of medical necessity from your doc. A friend at work used his FSA to pay for a home air purifier with a letter from his doc that he had allergies. Different plans may have different interpretations of the rules, though. Good luck.
