WAF,

All I can say is, coming from a home that never had an ant, let alone a roach/water bug, this was as big as a taxi cab. I totally freaked. And, yes, I know all about Palmetto bugs. Been down in FL. My sister lived there years ago, moved back to NY and is back down there now, as are my parents since last July permanently now. I am the lone survivor left in NY from my immediate family. They keep trying to get me to come down and live there, but doesn't look like it's going to happen, at least while I'm still under 70, especially with my second child in a SUNY college still.

Isn't it amazing how off-topic we can let these threads get? Sorry, all...

cpap moment

Post by tomjax » Sat Aug 20, 2005 7:19 pm

One of the most memorable experiences I ever heard was from another forum.

Seems a fellow had a labrador retriever that enjoyed sleeping in the room with him and his favorite place was wrapping himself around the CPAP on the floor and enjoying the heated humidifier.
Get the picture next time you get in bed and are inhaling the warm air from your pap and about to enter dreamland. Take a deep breath and savor the ambience.

Seems the dog had had a very good meal and developed a bad case of gas.
the real memorable kind that went straight to the filter and thru the hose and the mask.

I will spare you the details, but needless to say, the dog does not sleep there anymore.

Thank you for the laugh. It was one of those that hurt the stomach muscles but felt so good after you stopped, sort of like taking a muscle relaxer. You must have choked...OMG!

Hi, Brea. Welcome to this site. Keep us updated and ask for help whenever. Greatest group of people on this site willing to offer assistance with just about every question you may have (and they're pretty smart, too). And if you're anything like I was in the beginning, you will have a lot of questions. I still do.

Also, there is a search button at the top of the page that you can put in keywords and get lists of already established threads to help you with various topics. Good luck on your therapy.

Fire ants and airplanes......

Many years ago I rented a small plane . We took off and were flying along . The day was beautiful and the air was smooth. Everyone that owned a plane was flying . It was one of those days. We were flying into Austin. Sent out over lake Travis for the approach to Austin. All lined up pretty like a video game for the controllers. Then it happened.................

ANTS ......... We were covered with them. Fire ANTS ! They were biting.... .OUCH..

Austin Approach , Warrior Nxxxxx We have a problem..........

Warrior Nxxx what is your problem ?

Warrior xxx , Ahh , we're covered with fireants here. We need to land Immediately .

Warrior xxx Say again. Are you declaring an emergency ?

Warrior xxx is ahh , we're covered with fireants here. Don't know where they came from but they're all over us and they're really mad.

Warrior Nxxx understand turn right 120 for vectors to final RWY 12 . You're # 3 for landing. DO you need assistance upon landing ?

No assistance needed ah, I think we can handle it , ah we'll need to stop and evecuate as soon as possible .

Tower has your requset. Contact tower 123.6

Austin tower warrior xxx

Warrior xxx cleared to land rwy 12 r

Warrior xxx turn off taxiway c , you can shut down as soon as you are clear of 12.

Contact ground .9

It was a rental airplane. Turns out the previous renter left an open can of coke in the plane. The fire ants found it and lived in it. When the plane started the vibration made them mad. They made their way up front and found us.

Hows that for a BUG story

Not as scar as a good cockroach story

Horrible, just horrible. Now I'll dream of barking spiders, giant cockroaches and fire ants. How did we get started on a subject like this when this is a forum for OSA and related problems??? Amazing...

ChrisP, I'll create and sell some hose caps to keep the insects out and you can handle the marketing.... you post a couple more stories like this and they'll be breaking our doors down to buy 'em.

I've got news for those of you North of the Mason-Dixon line. Your states DO have cockroaches. Call them what you want, they ARE cockroaches.

Chicago has them and had them back in the 60s and earlier. Michigan has them and had them back in the 60s and 70s.

I had ONE encounter w/the durn things in an upstairs apartment AFTER the landlord moved out of the downstairs apartment and left it vacant. Evidently they had been so well-fed whilst that landlord lived there they didn't bother w/us until the downstairs was vacant and they ran outta goodies to eat.

Turned out the landlord KNEW they had cockroaches but were too embarassed to have an exterminator truck in front of the house. I sure wasn't!!! We hired the exterminator and deducted the cost from our rent. We moved very shortly thereafter and I remember WASHING everything we owned, line drying everything and packing in the yard - just in case. I was terrified of taking some or even one of the durn things w/us to our new home!

To that point I had lived such a sheltered life I thought the darn things were confined to the south. Naturally, my stepmother was visiting and saw the darn cockroach and knew what it was!!! She was from Chicago. She and her family were very clean, neat people so I assume they had encountered them in some apartments they moved into from time to time. I didn't ask!

And I won't go into the story of my horror and shock when my grandaughters came home from school w/HEAD LICE! Ugh. I was much happier in my prior sheltered life! And this from the gal who used to chase the boys w/garter snakes as a kid. And who once put a big fat nightcrawler down a neighbor boy's back and then knocked him down and rolled him so it was squished into his back!!!
