Hi again.
I think I've entered my equipment correctly. Please excuse. All of this is so new to me and a little more than my little brain can handle! (Spider monkey
I'm reading through the various posts and I'm gathering I need to understand this all a lot more. They pretty much gave me a 10 minute run through of the equipment and sent me out the door. Since I was already feeling pretty overwhelmed by the data the nurse relayed to me about the sleep study I didn't ask enough questions.
I am also having trouble with the fit of the mask. I now have two bright red sore spots on the end of my nose. I didn't realize till I saw all your posts that are a lot of different masks.
I'm wondering if the problem is that I'm opening my mouth when I sleep?
Thanks everyone for the help.

Do you know what settings they made to your S8 Elite? What's the min/max pressure? Or is it set to straight CPAP?

Re: Repost-New-Waking up suffocating
I have no idea what the settings are but i will ask and then repost. I think I'm going to call and try to get an apointment today to see them. I obviously need more information and I can't keep waking up at 2am and not getting any more sleep. I'm concerned that my technician seems a bit of a doofus and not too willing to explain much. He had about four things going on at the same time as he was fitting me for the mask and was actually pretty discouraging when he talked about the machine and how hard it was going to be to get used to it.
I actually slept better and felt better the next day after the sleep study even with all the wires connected than I have since using the machine at home. I'm feeling rather discouraged at the moment.

Yes, it is discouraging to feel you can't get the help you need from those whe are paid to help you. I was once in the same boat, and found help here for free.
it would be helpful for you to have a copy of your diagnostic and titration reports. It may have been too much data to hear at once at the office visit, but the more you read, the more it will make sense over time. It contains information that could hold clues to help you out. With the software to look at your numbers, or checking the screen in the mornings (before noon), you could get some info about your leaks. You don't need the tech or the doctor to do that. You're right, significant leaks, whether mask or mouth, can render your treatment ineffective. I would think having the answer to the leak question would be first for you. If there are no leaks, then the question becomes if your pressure is adequate for all stages of sleep and positions.
I've had only the older ResMed machines so I can't say for sure how to access the clinical menu on yours. But when you do, just jot down every setting in case you mistakenly change something it can be changed back. Do you have and/or plan to use the software? Some of your answers could be right at your fingertips.
I see you found your way to the monkey threads. Don't let the many animal avatars fool you. There's some very astute critters around here who know this cpap stuff in and out and will be glad to help you find your way through the jungle of cpap treatment.

P.S. Just saw your other thread. Is your machine set to give you exhalation relief?

Re: Repost-New-Waking up suffocating
Hi, it's possible that you are opening your mouth while sleeping, but that would not cause the sensation of not being able to exhale against the pressure. That is caused by the pressure itself. Your machine should have an "EPR mode". I'm not sure how to check on it because I don't know much about that machine, but I'm sure some more knowledgeable people will get on here and tell you how to check it. In the meantime, if you get in contact with your sleep lab before then you can ask them if it's turned on for you. That should help with that sensation, but you also need to get used to the pressure. You will get used to it, but it takes a week or two.

Luigi - just a tip - please don't start a new thread (post 'subject') when you already have one going - it's confusing to our OSA affected little brains and it's better to just post again on the original thread.
